A bevy of Australian designers have turned out some of their most ambitious Spring/Summer collections in years, transforming the trends coveted on the Northern Hemisphere runways.
It’s bright, bold, structured, and fiercely elegant; a smorgasbord of citruses, delicate pastels, and bold primary colours. Tailoring has taken pride of place this season, so start building a wardrobe of city shorts, structured skirts with geometric cut outs, and paneled, form-fitting tops in graphic prints. And don’t forget to round it all off with barely-there footwear - the platform is taking a much-needed hiatus this season.
So which designers have it in the bag? Be sure to add the likes of Scanlan & Theodore, Josh Goot, Zimmermann, and Lisa Ho to you’re your new season hit list.
Here’s my edit...

Zimmermann.... Pretty pastels & lace with a decent side of tough tailoring.
Zimmermann is one of those brands that prove time and time again that pretty can also be directional. Their flawless prints have become synonymous with the Australian summer, and their bikinis are a beach staple. Look out for their pastel and citrus take on the bomber, their delicate candy-toned lace work, and jaw-dropping stilettos.
Lisa Ho.... The perfect balace of lady like meets beachside cabana.
Lisa Ho’s Spring/ Summer 2012 offering is resort wear at its best. The sleek collection, with its strong tropicana undertones, is full of key summer staples that will easily take you from city to surf. Look out for the tropicana short - with its sporty detailing, and retro print, these little numbers will be on high rotation this summer.
Scanlan & Theodore.... Unpredicable, grown up glamour at its best.
Nobody does understated elegance like Scanlan & Theodore. Their rich new-season collection celebrates the female form, making the done-to-death peplum trend seem entirely new and fresh again. Desert reds mingle with rich navies and royal blues with truly striking results. Look out for their delicate floral graphics in high-shine finishes.
Josh Goot.... The holy grail for this summer's "It" print.
Josh Goot follows up his Autumn/ Winter 2012 offering with a print-driven collection, practically bursting with summer silhouettes that just scream ‘now’. Look out for structured, directional pieces that, in true Goot style, appear both minimal and highly technical. If you are going to invest in one graphic piece this summer, make it a Goot. We hear that Camargue is soon to be expecting a hefty delivery of the label’s new-season goodies.
