Brisbane's Best Child-Friendly Cafes

For those of you with children, you’ll know there are times when you Just. Need. To. Get. Out. Isn’t it ironic, then, that having said children is often the thing that’s preventing you from going anywhere?

Now, I love my kids, but sometimes I need to have a coffee that’s not of the lukewarm, instant variety, in a place that’s not my kitchen, without one child hanging onto my leg, while trying to negotiate with my toddler to please stop throwing rocks at the magpies…

Sometimes I just need a café. Now, there are many places where, if I turned up with my rugrats, the snooty staff would quickly make it clear that I was ruining things for everyone else. Thankfully though, there are some cute places that make taking your kids out in public a whole lot easier, if only for the dollar signs that flash up when they realise what parents will spend to keep their child quiet - ‘another babycino please…’

Coffee with children

Here are my picks for Brisbane’s best kid-friendly coffee spots:

A cute little café with highchairs galore, Kafe Krave is always filled to the brim with kids (and their parents), so you know you’re in good company. All the usual café fare, in a relaxed atmosphere, with some killer milkshakes thrown into the mix, makes this an all-round winner. Bonus points for the close proximity to Mama’s Home.

A favourite for Northsiders with a penchant for yummy cakes, Bowerbird is the go-to spot for families with young kids wanting to take advantage of the fantastic kids’ room out the back. Complete with a blackboard and toys to keep the kids entertained, this is the perfect place to relax with the paper and indulge in a sweet treat.

For the book-loving family, you can’t beat West End’s fab bookstore, Avid Reader. A great coffee shop, beautifully curated book collection, and story times for the kiddies…what more do you need?

Located out the back of the sweet Green Grass Home and Body store at Bulimba, Park Bench Espresso is a popular coffee stop for Eastsiders wanting to get their organic coffee fix. Cross the road to Bulimba Park and let the kids run wild in the fantastic playground while you sip.
