Gone Girl | Book Review

If you ask me, the terms ‘unputdownable’ and ‘page turner’ are bandied about a little too freely these days. Having said that, I present to you the unputdownable-page-turner, Gone Girl. Saltier, and with more twists and turns than a pretzel, suspense queen, Gillian Flynn’s latest psychological thriller is a plot-dense, delectable read.

Not usually my genre of choice, Flynn has single-handedly won me over with her chilling portrayal of love gone oh-so-horrifically wrong. Let’s just say that Gone Girl does for marriage what We Need to Talk About Kevin does for the prospect of having children...
When gorgeous and clever (Amazing) Amy Dunne goes missing on the day of her fifth wedding anniversary to dashing journo-turned-lecturer, Nick, we’re taken on a not-so-merry ride as the grizzly evidence against her hubby mounts up. As everyone with a penchant for crime telly knows, the husband is always guilty. And Amy’s diary does nothing to dispel the tide of opinion that Nick is, well, a giant douchebag.
From the outset, I didn’t like him and I didn’t like her but, by God, did I like this book. The writing is brilliant, the largest of the multiple twists hits you like a freight train, and you’ll hold your breath right up ‘til the very last page - which I read at midday on a sunny Saturday while the world passed by outside my window. Read it and you’ll understand.
Have you read Gone Girl? Give us your verdict!
