Mr and Mrs G Riverbar Opens in the CBD

Mr and Mrs G Riverbar has opened right on the water in Brisbane City this week. Perched on the edge of the river walk, in the shadow of the Story Bridge, it has arguably the best decor and the best view of any bar in Brisbane.

Andy and Marcia George opened the Mr and Mrs G Riverbar in the Brisbane CBD this week. title=Andy and Marcia George opened the Mr and Mrs G Riverbar in the Brisbane CBD this week.

Named for owners, Andy and Marcia George, who also own Il Centro opposite, the Mr and Mrs G Riverbar interior has been transformed by the exceptionally talented Anna Spiro. Hand panted Moroccan side tables are scattered between colourful and comfortable lounges adorned with a bright cushion or two and we also hear the bathroom ceiling is worth looking up for! Decandently striped bar stools, low hanging lighting and a very Anna Spiro-esque blue wallpaper complete the look.

Mr and Mrs G Riverbar has it's own kitchen and is serving delectable tapas-style morsels. The scallops with black rice, chorizo and red peppers, Greek meatballs, and a very edible looking ploughmans platter were just a few of the options that caught our eye. They even serve dessert, chef's choice, and we bet plenty of Il Centro's patrons (and quite a few passers-by) will be ducking across the walkway for pudding with a view.

Il Centro’s sommelier, Shawn Gomez has planned the wine and cocktail lists, with a surprisingly large selection of by the glass options. While we only had time for a quick taste of bubbles while visiting last night, the cocktails look pretty special - a mix of classics and a few 'with a twist'.

If you're keen to know more about Brisbane's royal family of the restaurant scene, stop by the wall of vintage frames that chronicles the lives of Andy and Marcia. Wedding photos are mixed with pictures of the couple from their early days as restauranteurs, bringing a touch of history to the suit-clad CBD.

We can see spending an hour or two perched at the tile covered bar, French champagne in hand, before heading across to Il Centro for their famous sand crab lasagne.

We started our Friday night there last weekend. G&T's for me. The view is amazing. Great vibe. Nice bar!

Such a great spot Cora. And isn't the decor just perfect? The food is yummy too - the ploughmans platter with damper is just the thing with a glass or two of prosecco.
