Rumour has it...

I’ll admit it - I am one of those people who are terrible at keeping secrets.  But is it so bad to tell a secret or spread a rumour if it is in the interests of others to know?  If you think so, turn away now, as I’m about to dish the dirt on some new Brisbane hotspots I’ve been hearing about recently.

Mr and Mrs G Riverbar Brisbane

Mr and Mrs G Riverbar
The doors officially opened to Mr and Mrs G Riverbar this week.  The real life Mr and Mrs G are no strangers to our city’s culinary scene: they are the owners of Il Centro Restaurant at Eagle Street Pier.
Just across the pier from their iconic restaurant is this new intimate bar, set in a rotunda with arguably the best views of the Brisbane River and Story Bridge.  I expect to be enjoying cocktails here very soon.

One Eleven
Further down on Eagle Street, Philip Johnson’s new Bistro One Eleven and Espresso One Eleven are getting their finishing touches.  Bistro One Eleven promises to offer the kind of exceptional and sophisticated dining experience that Johnson is renowned for (E’cco Bistro, anyone?).
The more casual Espresso One Eleven is due to open in late July, followed by Bistro One Eleven in late August.

Jamie’s Italian
I would have never imagined that Brisbane could be jealous of Ipswich.  But I turned a nasty shade of green when Jamie Oliver made Ipswich his first destination for Ministry of Food Australia.
As it turns out, Brisbane may not have to wait too much longer for some love from Jamie.  There have been whispers of a Jamie’s Italian setting up camp at the former Siana Riverside venue.

Hugos
Meanwhile, the vacant ex-Siana site in Fortitude Valley is crying out for an elegant new social establishment.  And rumour has it that Hugos is considering this venue for its first interstate venture.
The original Hugos Lounge in Kings Cross has been one of Sydney’s most famous and popular nightspots for years.  I am sure that Brisbane revellers would definitely welcome some Hugos heat to our city.

Alfred and Constance
Another Valley hotspot to watch out for is the hotly anticipated Alfred and Constance.  This neighbour and sister establishment to the Limes Hotel is due for its grand opening in September.
After sampling the pop-up Alfred and Constance restaurant at the Teneriffe Festival last weekend, I am itching for the full gastro pub and tiki bar experience.

TUL Note: Eagle Street Yuppie is The Urban List’s resident corporate fat cat - negotiating, with great stealth, the delicate ins-and-outs of our CBD pecking order. Be sure to peruse the Eagle Street Yuppie Blog for the best restaurants, bars, events, and retail haunts on offer; perfect for those chasing the Yuppie Dream in our fair city. If you deem life’s little luxuries as daily necessities... this twenty-something, discerning lawyer has got you covered.

I've also just discovered that Pony Dining (of Sydney fame) is set to open on Eagle Street Pier shortly. Looking forward to this one!
