Takeaway Tuesdays | Northside Edition

The thought of inflicting a supermarket, at 6pm on a Monday, upon yourself is sheer torture. Take your boyfriend or roommate along for the ride, and the decision-making process usually spirals out of control and into a full-blown argument. So you go it alone…

“What do I feel like? What will he feel like? Scrap that, what can I actually cook? What ingredients will I need to make that? Rice. Do I have rice at home? I swear I do, but do I risk having to come back into this nightmare? Ok, which aisle will I find the rice?”

Only to get home to realise you have enough rice to feed a third world country... Sound familiar?

To take the pain and suffering out of midweek dining (#firstworldproblems), I bring you Take-away Tuesdays round two.

North-siders, It’s your lucky break…

Simply Duo | Nundah
The French-Vietnamese food is sublime. What’s even better is that they do take-away! Tucked away on Nundah’s busy Sandgate Road, this little hole in the wall exceeds all expectations. Whether you’re after deliciously fresh prawn rice paper rolls with a trio of dipping sauces, green papaya salad with spicy beef, or the indulgent twice-cooked pork belly with sesame beans, there will be something sure to tickle your Tuesday night tastebuds.

Efe’s One | Albion
With a plentiful take-away menu, it’s hard to go past the Falafel Kebab. Think hot, doughy, freshly baked flat bread packed to the rafters with falafel, tabouli, salad and hummus. The Vegie Combo is also worth a mention. A mix of Dolma, fresh beans, falafel, grilled zucchini, grilled eggplant, potato and salad, complemented with a side of babaganoush and fresh Turkish bread.

Kow Thai | Albion
Seriously low-key, with a serious takeaway clientele. A friend introduced Kow Thai to me and, I’ll admit, I was sceptical upon approaching the restaurant front. After sharing a fragrant curry, fresh stir-fry and crunchy salad, I was well and truly swayed. They also do a mean Pad Thai.
