The Verdict

We might have just discovered Perth’s best health club! Surge Fitness opened its brand spanking new doors in Perth's Kings Square in February last year and have been doing some pretty awesome things.

The club is open 24/7 for all you night-owls out there but it offers way more than just fitness. They’ve got some of the highest-tech equipment known to man (plus a heap of super helpful staff who will happily help you figure it out if you’re slightly tech challenged like us). They’ve also got some wicked personal trainers, plenty of classes, a day care centre just downstairs and a physiotherapist on site—hello post-workout massages!

If you’re into cycling, you’re going to be falling over yourself trying to get here. The Stages Cycle classes use the official training bikes used by British cycling champs, Team Sky, and the Tour de France guys, but if you prefer to ride solo you can jump on the X-Dream Bikes and ride through Barcelona or LA, or swap to the E-Scape mode and cycle the beach or the forest. The world is your bike-riding oyster. They’ve also got some super cool boxing machines, a Jacob's Ladder stair climbing machine (which will give you buns of steel) and all the other usual suspects.

With a diverse group fitness timetable that's included in Surge's memberships, gym goers can enjoy Vinyasa and Yin yoga classes, Barre, Animal Flow, The Jungle Body and Les Mills classes to name just a few. Plus, Surge is the only gym in WA licenced to bring you Training for Warriors (TFW)—an eight-week challenge designed to help you lose fat and gain a whole lotta muscle. The program is made up of fat blasting metabolic circuits, strength, flexibility and mobility training, as well as nutrition advice. If you hear the words "Last set, best set" and "TFW for life" screamed around the gym, you know what's going down! Click here to find out when the next TFW challenge kicks off.

The luxurious change rooms and towel service also make swanning in and out on your lunch break pretty dang easy with massive lockers, GHD hair dryers AND straighteners and there's even an ironing board so you don't need to worry about getting up early to bother with that. Winning!

And don't get us started on Surge’s incredible personal trainers. Every membership comes with a Member Journey program which includes three 30 minute personal training sessions, plus a personalised program. You can also take advantage of one-on-one training and semi-private lessions—so whatever your goal, the crew here has you sorted.

The stunning 360-degree views and vast, open functional training zones really set this fitness space apart from anywhere else.

The club is on the third floor of the KS3 building in King’s Square, so you get some super stunning views of the city and Northbridge during your workout. The group training room is full of so much natural light you’ll feel like you’re working out outside and we’re pretty excited about Surge's evening classes—the lights of Northbridge make one hell of a backdrop for a sweat sesh. And possibly the best part about the group fitness room—the rest of the gym doesn’t get to watch on as you awkwardly try and coordinate that uppercut and box kick. Why do so many other gyms insist on doing that to us?!
