The verdict

The Clock Hotel in Surry Hills is a mainstay for a reason. Lovingly known as “The Clock” to locals, there are a number of different spaces where you can kick back with some friends, a date, or even your dog.

When good weather hits, the courtyard is the perfectly sun-dappled spot to enjoy an ice-cold beer (or your beverage of choice) and one of their classic pub eats—cheeseburger with pickles and smoky mayo? Heirloom tomato salad or some sesame crumbed calamari? Yes please. We suggest you keep an eye out on their daily food and drink specials because who doesn’t love a good happy hour and cheap eat?

A much sought after spot on the upstairs balcony is ideal for people watching on Crown Street where you can watch the sun set over the Surry Hills terraces while you sip on a cider. Inside, there are plenty of comfortable spaces to chill out in over a number of floors, so you’ll almost always be able to find a seat (a big drawcard in the busy Surry Hills bar scene).

For lovers of whisky and good times, The Whisky Room serves up (you guessed it) a huge range of whiskies. Whether you’re a whisky connoisseur or a total newbie, the guys here are always happy to help with your selection. Plus, their whisky flights let you sample three whiskies from around the world which is ideal for the curious and indecisive.

So whether it’s a post-work wine with a colleague, a lazy mid-week dinner or a catch up bevvy with your mates, The Clock covers all bases. It’s a local favourite for a reason!
