The verdict
Paddington’s king of all things meat and seafood—Four in Hand—has re-opened with a new dining room, The Grill at The Four, and if either of those things are your jam, then you’ll want to keep reading. The menu here is extensive, with starters of creamy burrata with fennel and orange, or kangaroo tartare with sweet potato crisps on the starts menu, and it only gets better from there.
For a more substantial meal, you’ll want to head straight for the wood-fired grill menu, where beef takes centre stage—from the New York striploin to the 1.2kg Tomahawk to share. Don’t fancy beef? There’s also live rock lobster in a garlic and lemon sauce for the high rollers, and plenty of lighter options to boot.
If you sit at the bar, then you’ll be choosing from the selection of fuss-free comfort food—chicken parmigiana, we’re looking at you. But let’s be real, if you’re sitting at the bar then you’ll be all over the cocktail and wine list. The cocktail list is uncomplicated, and our top picks are a few of the classics like a whisky sour, Martini and Negroni.
The pub itself has had a serious facelift as well, and designer Amadine Odouard (the legend behind Bar Moncur and Bistro Moncur) has upped their interior game with brass details, rich timbers and quilted leather panelling that only adds to the heritage-listed pub’s charm. Yes, you will want to settle in and you’ll be doing it with a Negroni in hand if we have anything to do with it.
