We’re just a little bit obsessed with Aussie songbird Jack River. The ARIA-nominated artist, aka Holly Rankin, has been tearing up the charts since dropping her debut LP Sugar Mountain in May 2019. The track premiered on triple j Breakfast before quickly becoming the number one most played song and we've been digging her tunes ever since.

Today she’s releasing her highly anticipated EP Stranger Heart , with upcoming tours and festivals filing her jam-packed calendar. So, yeah she’s got a bit on.

To celebrate her new music (and because we’re a little bit nosy) we’re taking a sneak peek into how Jack River spends her days, in our brand-new series ‘A Day In The Life Of’. Hint: it involves a lot of lists and dog love.

My alarm goes off at…5.45am but I get up at 6.15am.
And the first thing I do is…give my dog a hug.
This Valentine’s Day I’m... releasing an EP called Stranger Heart.

My favourite love song is…Fade Into You by Mazzy Star.
Brekky is usually…a smoothie then eggs on toast.
A typical day of work for me starts with…a breath, letting go of stress and a list.
I’ll head to the studio…whenever I feel I want to write a song.
What I’m working on is…. pieces of writing, videos, shows, touring plans and my two festivals Grow Your Own and Electric Lady.

When I need a break I always…get outside.
I get inspiration from…nature and people doing great things.
I’m currently in love with…my dog, Sanna Marin and Jacinda Ardern.
Around 3pm you’ll usually find me…still at my desk working.
I prep for touring by…making lists, pre-organising classes and making little wellness packs for the road.

My favourite part of my job is…translating weird spiritual messages into hearable recordings and meeting young people across the country.
I decompress after a gig or day in the studio by…swimming in the ocean.
I couldn’t get through the day without…a swim and a list.

My ideal date is…surfing, then dinner outside / in the country/by the coast.
My bedtime routine is…read some poetry and write a little.
I'm in bed by...10pm.
