Adelaide Fringe Festival

The Adelaide Fringe Festival is just around the corner and the lineup is absolutely stacked. To celebrate their 60th birthday they’ve lined up over 1,000 events unfolding across the city, so there’s plenty to get excited about. But, where do you even begin?

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the choices, don’t fret: we’ve done what we do best and narrowed it down for you. From all-out cabaret blockbusters to supernatural experiences and masterful comedy, here are our top picks at this year’s Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Blanc De Blanc Encore

While it’s hard to pick faves, Blanc de Blanc Encore is hands down one of the best shows of Fringe 2020. Following a record-breaking season at Sydney Opera House, Blanc de Blanc Encore is serving up an intoxicating blend of flirtation and acrobatic feats. Get ready to submerge yourself in this burlesque extravaganza where Parisian glitz and glamour inspire a party of Gatsby-like proportions. Not one for the faint hearted, expect risqué humour, spectacular aerials, comedy and big dance numbers that will have you on the edge-of-your-seat.

Matt Okine—Solo Dinner

If you like us have already binged the latest season of The Other Guy, the good news is you can get another serving of Matt Okine’s epic wit at this year’s Fringe. After a busy year spent producing his award-winning show, writing a debut novel and having a baby, Okine has got plenty to complain, sorry, laugh about in this hour of pure stand up gold

Yabarra—Dreaming In Light

Running for all 31 days and nights of Fringe, you’re invited to go on an immersive dreaming track to experience a story of creation and country at Tandanya. You’ll experience the Dreaming through cutting edge light technologies and state of the art illuminations that will seriously wow you. This special story is one for all generations and all communities to share in. Free for anyone to attend (but still remember to book a ticket), Yabarra will be a unique cultural experience which will engage, immerse, and educate all who share the Dreaming In Light. Don’t miss it.

Jason Alexander—Master Of His Domain

Seinfeld fans rejoice, the man behind the beloved character of George Costanza is bringing his hugely successful tour to Fringe. To celebrate three decades of Seinfeld, Alexander is presenting a truly memorable show. Describing it as a fusion of musical numbers and memories, fans will also get the chance to indulge in an intimate Q&A with Alexander where no topic is off limits.

Velvet Rewired

After sold out shows at the Sydney Opera House and Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the explosion of sequins and stardust that is Velvet Rewired is returning to Adelaide. This disco-fuelled cabaret spectacular is absolutely one to check out with your mates. Lead by the fearlessly fabulous Marcia Hines and a cast of ten, there will be a dazzling array of acrobats, aerialists, amazing vocals, glitz, glamour and jaw-dropping circus skills. Not to mention an epic disco soundtrack that will have you grooving in your seat.

The Choir Of Man

Fresh from their world tour, do yourself a solid and grab a ticket to this feel good show. Featuring nine uber-talented lads, The Choir Of Man combines live music, high energy dance and a whole slew of surprises, with everything from piña coladas to live pint percussion—yes it’s a thing! The show’s set will have you feeling like you’ve stepped inside an old English pub, complete with a working beer tap and walls of booze. But the best part is of course the singing, you’ll want to croon along with this talented group as they belt out hits from Avicii, Adele, Sia and Queen to name a few.

Adelaide Gaol Ghost Tour & Investigation

Take your obsession with true crime to the next level at this awesome interactive event. Not one for the faint-hearted, you’ll get the chance to be locked up in Australia’s longest-running goal. Discover the ghost of Governor Ashton, whose body was dropped through a window, Sister Mary MacKillop's link with the Gaol and the spirit of South Australia's most sadistic killer still stalking his prey. With 45 hangings and a burial site in Murderer's Row, it's no surprise more than 12 spirits haunt the 147 year old building.
