Here’s How adidas Has Transformed Their Ultraboost Sneaker

When it comes to creating a new running shoe, who better to go to for advice than runners themselves? This is exactly what adidas did, and last night unveiled the adidas Ultraboost 19 in Melbourne.

In their largest collab yet, designers and product developers enlisted the help of thousands of runners from around the world to create the new silhouette. And the result is an urban look that keeps running fresh and new. The knitted body is encased within a lightweight shell with adidas’ signature sole. Featuring shades of grey, black and a dash of fluoro orange it will be a staple in every fitness-lovers’ wardrobe.

It is the original Ultraboost reimagined. Through their many discussions with more than 4000 creators, adidas discovered that the face of running is changing. No longer a solo sport, the emergence of city running clubs and fun runs, it’s now a social sport. They wanted a shoe that had fewer pieces but remaining high performance.

The team achieved this by reducing the shoe from 17 pieces to just four. These include the optimised BOOST, with 20% more support in the midsole, a torsion spring for enhanced support on landing and a snappy transition to propel runners forward and the primeknit 360 which feels like a second skin. And finally, they produced the 3D heel frame—designed to cradle the heel for adaptability and support.

“In creating the adidas Ultraboost 19, we tore up the rule book,” says Sam Handy, Vice President Design, adidas running. “We challenged the status quo of what a running shoe should be and how it should be created.”

You’ll be able to cop the collection from Thursday, 21st February in stores or online in New Zealand or Australia.
