Today it has been announced that Amazon Prime Video will be releasing a brand new docuseries that will follow six key individuals throughout the 2020 AFL season.
The streaming service recently had great success with the well-received documentary series, The Test, which followed the Australian Cricket team in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal.
The AFL series—which is currently untitled—will launch exclusively on Amazon Prime video to more than 200 countries in 2021.
The series will take a look behind the scenes of an AFL season that has been heavily affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. It follows four players, a coach, and a club administrator across six different teams.
Starring in the docu-series will be Richmond Football Club President, Peggy O'Neal, Gold Coast Suns coach Stewart Dew, and players Nic Naitanui (West Coast), Eddie Betts (Carlton), Rory Sloane (Adelaide), and Stephen Coniglio (GWS).
"Amazon Prime Video’s ability to tell stories and take fans behind the curtain is unprecedented in global sport and the AFL is proud to partner with Prime Video to showcase our game to the world” says Darren Birch, AFL General Manager, Growth, Digital and Audience. “We are facing unprecedented times in the history of our league, and to be able to document how it unfolds through the lens of some of our competition’s most influential and important figures will be something we look forward to bringing to life.”
