If you haven’t already started packing your bags, you need to get your priorities straight.

Luxury resort Sovena Fushi is a five-star tropical oasis in the Baa Atoll on Kunfunadhoo Island in the Maldives. It’s known as the “original hideaway” and its spacious villas are hidden among dense foliage on an uber private island (so much so, that you can barely even spot the villas from afar).

The resort oozes a Robinson Crusoe-style laidback vibe and sits just metres away from crystal clear waters. Most villas are equipped with private pools, hammocks, sky-high dining patios and open-air chocolate and ice cream parlours are the norm here. You can also go hard on making raw fish feeds at the resident sushi counter because you know, how else does one snack in the Maldives?

Sovena Fushi has basically opened its doors again (so if you can fork out the big bucks yes, staying here is available) but for the rest of you, you’re probably going to want to take note of the resort’s famous Pop-Up Bookshop which makes way for one of the best jobs in the entire world—barefoot bookselling.

The Pop-Up Book shop is now taking applications for a six-month stint in the Maldives, one that’s perfect for anyone with a huge passion for books and of course, all the bants so you can mingle like a boss with guests of all ages. If you’re keen (and you are), the criteria of working here means you’ll need 10/10 “written and verbal English skills; a lively tone of voice to write an entertaining blog that captures the exhilarating life of a desert island bookseller, and the skills to host workshops and other guest experiences”. Of course, you’ll also want to learn and absorb as much as you can about Soneva culture.

Your day-to-day activities and duties would look like running the small bookshop including sales management, stock management and reporting back on sales and stock updates, hosting workshops for Soneva guests like creative writing classes, bibliotherapy, tutoring (for the kiddies) and literacy lectures. You’ll also need to run the Barefoot Bookseller socials, write monthly blog posts and create entertaining and informative newsletters.

This is not a drill, pack your bags and apply here.

And naturally, here's how to maximise your side hustle cash flow until your application is approved.
