Hair accessories; let’s talk. Once the height of cool, Alice bands, glittery butterfly clips, and bulky headbands were relegated to the back of your wardrobe the minute the minimalistic 00s hit.
But in the intoxicating, nostalgic revival currently dominating the status quo, 90s paraphernalia has reached fever pitch. And it has absolutely zero sign of petering out.
Following the second coming of the humble scrunchie, all those big, unsightly hair barrettes have had a 2019 makeover—and are here to stay. Designer Ashley Williams’ became the unofficial revivalist after her 2018/19 Fashion Week shows, with Dolce & Gabbana, Zadig & Voltaire, Christian Siriano et al following suit.
The 2019 iteration of the barrette is pure decoration: think oversized, glittering and stacked to the max vs practical, and minimalistic. The more the merrier.
Here are three ways to wear the enduring style of the (now not-so) humble barrette.
Maxed-Out
