Making cocktails at home has become the favourite pastime of almost every adult Australian during the past few months. Especially if you're still stuck at home in Victoria.

The Floradora is a classic gin cocktail is perfect for the warmer months. It's said that the cocktail is named after an actor in the cast of the musical comedy 'Floradora' who claimed that she had tried every cocktail. Bartender Jimmy O'Brien created the drink and named it after the musical.

As with most gin cocktails, it's ideal for the warmer months of the year, and a great way to take it up a notch is to use Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin when making it. Hence the 'bloody' aspect.

We first heard of the Bloody Floradora cocktail from the team behind the Shameless podcast. And we reckon it might just be the official cocktail of lockdown.

"While I am loving the fact I am hereby known as the cocktail queen of Shameless, I should put on the record that it was my boyfriend's brother who found the recipe! (I am a fraud, but a good one.) He found the recipe at the beginning of lockdown when we had a bottle of Four Pillars Shiraz Gin to share and nothing to put it in. The Bloody Floradora was the top search on Google and it was easily the best drink I'd ever had. Alas! I shared it on the podcast and it went a little bananas." said Zara from Shameless.

So, here's how to make a Bloody Floradora.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 50ml Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin
  • 10ml sweet vermouth (Cinzano does the job)
  • 10ml sugar syrup (make it yourself, or buy)
  • 25ml fresh lime juice
  • Ginger beer
  • Half a lime for garnish

Method

  1. Add gin, vermouth, sugar syrup and lime juice into a shaker. Add ice.
  2. Shake and strain into a tumbler over ice.
  3. Top with some ginger beer and garnish with half a lime.
