Cafe Freda’s was set to close in Darlinghurst on Saturday 1 March due to redevelopment of its sunny corner site—but it’s been shared today that they’re reopening in April inside Chippendale pub The Abercrombie.
After four years on Taylor Square, Cafe Freda’s will take over the space that was formerly wine bar Lil Sis, returning to its origins in Chippendale as a two-storey space called Bar Freda’s, with owners Dave Abram and Carla Uriarte also curating The Abercrombie’s club nights at the 24-hour-licensed venue.

“It’s remarkable that we’re coming back just a few hundred meters from where the original Freda’s was,” says co-owner Dave Abram.
“I’m beyond excited to be back in a position to provide opportunities for young DJs, promoters and creatives in Sydney and help give them a platform to perform and express themselves. At the heart of it, that's what Freda’s has always been about”.
With a new menu currently being devised, the new space is set to offer a more extensive range of cocktails using top-quality ingredients, alongside wines from small producers in line with the list at the current site.
CEO of Solotel Group—which operates the hotel—Elliot Solomon said, “Freda’s has always been synonymous with community and great energy, and this collaboration is an exciting opportunity for us to continue that legacy in a new way.”
