After being postponed last year due to COVID-19, Dark Mofo is ready to welcome lovers of the night back to Hobart, and we’ve got the lowdown on the ultimate itinerary to help you do it in style.
Join Inspiring Journeys for a four day long weekend escape to the Apple Isle where you can get down with the dark arts in hidden galleries, witness magical feats of light and sound, and lose yourself in a winter feast that promises plenty of fire.
The four-day tour kicks off in Hobart on 19 June with a welcome tipple at Hobart Brewing Company before you get on down to foodie town at the hellishly delicious Winter Feast. If previous years are anything to go by the long-table banquet promises a sinful blend of indulgent local eats, smooth wines and dark neon-lit confines, so no-one will notice when you unbutton your jeans halfway through dinner.
Day two promises a walking tour of the beautiful and historic Hobart docks, time to devour delectable local produce at the rave-reviewed Salamanca Market and a spooky, savvy b filled lunch in an old asylum hospital. Feel the chill of winter (or maybe ghosts) on a tour of the Willow Court Asylum where you’ll get to uncover the dark history of the building which predates Port Arthur.
Your last full day on the island will see you ferrying across the Derwent River with canape in hand to the Museum of New and Old Art (MONA). Housing a private collection of ancient, contemporary and modern art that is arguably one of the most controversial in the world, you’ll be left with plenty of time to explore (or scratch your head at) the collection and subterranean architecture of MONA. When you get thirsty you can stop by Moorilla Winery for a local vino tasting before making tracks to your farewell dinner which promises city, dock and Mt Wellington views.
After dinner, most of the evenings on tour are left to do with as you please, which means hitting up the weird and wonderful installations and experiences Dark Mofo has to offer or crashing your head onto a lofty pillow at the waterside Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart early; the choice is yours.
The tour starts at $1790 per person for twin share or $2340 for singles and includes accommodation, transfers to and from Hobart Airport, three full buffet breakfasts, one lunch and one dinner with wine, as well as round-the-clock guidance from a Journey Director and Driver Guide.
Spaces are limited, book your spot on this extravagant Hobart tour here and remember to pack warm.
