It’s almost been a whopping four years since her last album, but we now have word Grimes is coming out with a new LP, so drop everything you’re doing and listen up.
A few weeks ago, Grimes took to social media to unveil details about her forthcoming LP titled Miss_Anthropocene, a concept album about the anthropomorphic goddess of climate change. It’s a complex album that tackles a number of current modern issues, so if you’ve got a moment, you might want to head over to Instagram and read the full explanation.
Basically, the album will be about “a psychedelic, space-dwelling demon/beauty-queen who relishes the end of the world.” And while it might be hard to picture what that will actually sound like, Grimes hinted that the album is mostly “ethereal nu metal-ish” (but she might be dropping a few synth-based tracks before the album comes out).
The first song off the album, We Appreciate Power, was released last fall and tackled our potential enslavement and destruction at the hands of artificial intelligence.
In addition to the new album, Grimes stated in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal that she would be killing off her stage name "soon" and will go by "c" instead of Grimes. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. In the meantime, while we’re waiting for Grimes' epic new work of art to come out, you can give We Appreciate Power a listen below.
