June is set to be a biiiig month for blockbusters, with brand new Universal Pictures and Disney flicks hitting our shores. We really mean it when we say there is something for everymovie go-er this month from action packed CGI, to a decade-long awaited animation, and a supernatural thriller that will make your hairs stand on end. So take your pick, pass the popcorn and treat yourself to a night of indulgence with a trip (or two, or three) to the movies!
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Owen Grady and Claire Dearing (AKA Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard) are back, four years after the destruction of Jurassic World, to save the remaining dinosaurs from Isla Nublar where a volcano is about to erupt. Sounds simple enough for some dino-experts right? Of course not! Instead the pair encounter a new threat to the dinosaurs that could endanger the entire world. Jurassic World is quite possibly the biggest movie of the month, so make sure you get your tickets now!
The Incredibles 2
The movie we’ve all been waiting over a decade for is finally here this month! Elastigirl, Mr. Incredible, Dash, Violet, Frozone, and Jack-Jack pick up right where the first Incredibles movie left off. Elastigirl now has a new job campaigning to ‘bring back the supers’ and take down The Underminer, while Mr. Incredible takes care of homelife, particularly dealing with discovering Jack-Jack’s powers. Director Brad Bird has said he would only make an Incredibles 2 if it was going to be better than the first movie, so we know Incredibles 2 is going to live up to the 14 year long hype.
Some families are full of doctors, some are full of writers, but crime obviously runs in the family in the Ocean household. Debbie Ocean, played by Sandra Bullock, and sister to the original master thief Danny Ocean, plans her own heist to rob the Vogue Met Gala with an A lister cast to help her. Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter all star in the Oceantrilogy spin-off, and we just don’t know if we can even handle all that girl power on the big screen!
The 1972 Superfly is getting a 2018 revamp, following the life of pimp and drug dealer Youngblood Priest and his attempt to go straight. The film is set in Atlanta this time round, instead of Harlem likes its ’72 counterpart, as well as featuring a heavy hip-hop scene with new music from co-producer Future. The first film helped path the way for blaxploitation in the film industry, so make sure to catch this monumental and history-changing flick in cinemas!
Based on a true story sent in to the Wall Street Journal, Tag follows a group of men who have been friends since childhood and have been playing the same game of tag for 30 years. Once a year, for an entire month, the group plays an extreme game of tag as tradition. This year in particular, their game takes them to new heights. The comedy stars all our faves like Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Isla Fisher, and Rashida Jones.
Our monthly dose of thriller arrives in June in the form of the new supernatural horror film, Hereditary. After the death of matriarch of the Graham family, Ellen, passes away, the whole family begins to discover the horrendously dark secrets of their ancestory. The film premiered at Sundance in January and received universal critical acclaim, being called ‘bone-chilling’ and ‘unsettling’. This one will not be for the faint hearted.
Heartthrob Sam Claflin and gal pal Shailene Woodley star together in the new romance drama Adrift. The film is based on the true story of Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp who set sail across the Pacific Ocean in 1983 but veered directly into a hurricane. Upon regaining consciousness, Tami finds Richard with broken ribs and a shattered leg bone, as well as a destroyed boat. Relying on only each other, the couple must navigate their way to the nearest land, Hawaii, with no communication or navigation tools.
