Another month, another stellar line-up of movies. September is a big month for movie buffs as the line-up consists of critically acclaimed festival films, good old comedy, thrillers and re-releases of cult classics! There’s something for everyone at the cinemas this month—here’s a list of the must-see movies in September.
McQueen
Alexander McQueen is renowned for changing the world of fashion with his haunting yet beautiful designs. Māui’s Hook
Maori psychologist and director Paora Joseph will be releasing his newest documentary film Māui’s Hook in September. Paora Joseph’s new film looks at the heavy topic of suicide through a Māori lens and perspective. Although the tales and stories told in this film are told through a Māori point of view, it addresses a topic that can affect anyone and is a must-see film for all. The raw interviews are interwoven with a fictional dramatisation of a young Māori man named Tama who is under deep emotional suffering and connects to a youth audience.
A Simple Favour
Anything starring Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively and Pitch Perfect’s Anna Kendrick is a recipe for gold entertainment. A Simple Favour is a mystery-thriller based on Darcey Bell’s novel which made waves in 2017. Anna Kendrick will be playing the role of the small town blogger who is trying to uncover the mysterious disappearance of her wealthy best friend, played by Blake Lively. A Simple Favour has all the drama, and betrayal and...dead bodies. You'll be on the edge of your seat for sure!
Christopher Robin
Relive your childhood this month with Christopher Robin. Inspired by the story of Winne The Pooh, this comedy-drama film is set to be the feel-good-film this September. The story is based on Christopher Robin’s life in London where his old friend Winnie The Pooh pays him a surprise visit. Together they embark on a long journey to round up the squad from Tigger to Roo in the hopes Christopher rediscovers the joys of life.
Pulp Fiction
Throw it back to the '90s with the re-release of the Tarantino cult classic, Pulp Fiction. Telling the tales of a series of crime stories in LA, Pulp Fiction has become a film renowned for its simplistic storyline but genius dialogue and script. Starring the Grease superstar John Travolta and Kill Bill’s Uma Thurman, Pulp Fiction is not only a film that is a must for September but should be ticked off the list for any movie buff!
Ladies In Black

Lewis fiddles with the clock and awakens the dead and enters a secret world of witches and warlocks. Lewis and his uncle, played by Black, struggle get to the bottom of the magic and chaos to prevent it from spreading to the rest of the world.
Searching
If it's thrills you're after this September, then look no further than Searching. Directed by Aneech Chaganty, it is shot from the point of view of smartphones and computer screens—enough to freak anyone out. Starring John Cho and Debra Messing, it tells the story of a father searching for his 16-year-old daughter. An investigation ensues and, with no leads, the father (played by Cho) decides to go searching on his daughter's laptop. And so begins a search of her digital footprint in a desperate bid to find her before she disappears forever.
The Nun
It's all about the horror when a priest is sent to Rome to investigate the mysterious death of a nun in new release movie, The Nun. A supernatural horror, it is a spin-off of the The Conjuring 2. The young nun, who lived in a secluded abbey in Romania, has taken her own life and the priest begins to uncover a very unholy secret where he will not only risk his own life but also face a malevolent force that is more terrifying than he'd ever imagined.
