Debuted at sacai’s Fall/Winter 2019 runway show in Paris, we now have a release date for the Japanese brand's collaboration with Beats by Dre. This collab sees both brands bring their vibe to the table, creating a rad juxtaposition.
Let’s get into the details. Sacai’s reinterpretation of the BeatsX wireless earphones sees the headphones elevated with customisable beads. When not in use, and as seen on the runway, the magnetic sides of the earbuds allow them to be worn as a piece of jewellery. Sacai designer, Chitose Abe, was inspired by the individuality of music and built off this concept, transforming the BeatsX into personal accessories.
The headphones will be released in three distinct colourways, all inspired by sacai’s signature pallet, “Burned Red,” “Deep White” and “True Black”.
Each features all of Beats' very best technology; an eight-hour battery, with Fast Fuel charging, which gives you two hours of playback off a five-minute charge and RemoteTalk functionality, allowing you to access your phone and adjust playback.
Established by Abe in 1999 in Tokyo, sacai focuses on the idea of hybridization, juxtaposing contrasting textures and patterns, and transforming pieces, rendering them timeless and unique. This collaboration allowed Beats to take their wireless product through sacai’s hybrid effect, creating a limited edition product.
You can check out a behind-the-scenes look at the collaboration below, featuring sacai’s Chitose Abe and Beats' President Luke Wood.
