This is not a drill! Despite blessing our ears back in July—AKA the epicentre of lockdown life—with her surprise album Folklore, Taylor Swift has gone and done us all a solid, gifting us yet another EP. And yes, she’s here to save 2020, one dreamy track at a time.

Evermore, which will be Swift’s ninth album, will be dropping in the US at midnight tonight—which is 3pm AEST today for Australia and 5pm for New Zealand. That’s right, much like Folklore which Swift sprung on us just hours before its worldwide drop, this latest collection has been revealed with minimal fanfare.

Alerting her 141 million Instagram followers, Swift revealed in a series of posts that Evermore, which has been dubbed Folklore’s sister album, came about because despite 2020 being a real jerk, she was on a creative roll, “To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.”

She continued, “I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning. I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them.”

Teaming up once again with musical maestro Jack Antonoff, Evermore boasts 15 tracks featuring collabs with Haim, The National and Bon Iver. There is also a deluxe physical edition that will include two bonus tracks, Right Where You Left Me and It’s Time To Go.

A video for the album’s first single, ‘Willow’, is set to arrive along with the album this afternoon and we cannot wait.
