The Case For That Super Bright New Season Neon | The Urban List

Neon is having a big, bright, in-your-face moment right now.

Whether it’s Bella Hadid wearing a hyper-bright floor length Jean Paul Gaultier column dress at a charity dinner in Paris, or Kim K in a vintage bubblegum pink Chanel onesie on a yacht in Miami—neon is alive and it is loud—and the big designers are dishing out lashings of this 90s-era hue.

The neon colour wheel was huge on the street and on the runways at the recent S/S 19 fashion week shows around the world. Virgil Abloh delivered a serious smack of lime in the last few looks at Off-White; there was highlighter-yellow at Versace, and neon sports jackets at Prabal Gurung in NYC.

Though, your girl Miuccia Prada was probably the biggest champion of the 2018 neon renaissance. Neon Dream is Prada's F/W 18 campaign, and it's the sort of David Lynch-inspired fashion dreamscape I want to play out in the real world (featuring Sarah Paulson and Violet Chacki).

Whether you do a little, a lot, or just dive right into this trend and go all-out neon, these super bright shades are all about summer vibes, lifting the mood, being glow-in-the-dark at all times and lighting up every room you step foot into.

So, in our series on splurging and committing cash to a trend, we give you the neon worth dropping your hard-earned dollars on right now.

To begin, here's that unbeatable, foolproof style equation.

Though fluoro may have until now been saved for rave dens and festival days, this new season neon is a tonne more sophisticated, and yes—you can, and you should, sport this colour in the office, at the café, walking your dog, to date night and to the supermarket on Sunday. Convinced yet?

If 'tasteful' is a word you like to use to describe your look, now is not the time to be shy. This neon packs a punch, but fashion gods like Virgil and Miuccia have made it more expressive and cool. This is a totally welcome reboot of the gaudy 1992 incarnation. Here are a few of our favourite (neon) things to splash out on now:

1. Prada Cloudbust high top sneakers, $1,520 at Net-A-Porter

2. Off-White 90s Vintage Tee, $365 at End

3. VETEMENTS + Reebok Instapump sneakers, $1,006.49 at Mr Porter.

4. Opening Ceremony pink nylon trench coat, approx. $350 at Ssense

5. Balenciaga World Food Programme hoodie, approx. $1,180 at Ssense.

6. Prada neon flame sandals, $1,660 at Net-A-Porter

7. Adidas Continental 80 sneakers, $149.95 at Culture Kings
