The True Detective Season 3 Trailer Just Dropped And We’re Keen

Try to control your hype levels. Drink a green tea and pop on Bach’s Cello Suite No.1 or something because the new True Detective trailer just dropped and we don’t want another harsh come down like season two.

Ready? Buckle up and watch the brand new teaser and then we’ll talk.

What do you think? Looks pretty sweet right? Possibly even a return to the lofty standards of season 1—widely regarded as a high water mark for human television.

True Detective season 3 will follow the story of Wayne Hays, played by Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali (if you haven’t seen Moonlight yet, get onto that ASAP). Hays is a detective in Arkansas, but the show is technically set in the Ozarks (a mountainous plateau that stretches over Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas).

From what we know so far, the season will span multiple timelines and use squirrely narrative devices to f*ck with your mind (in a good way). Before you ask, no, Woody Harrelson won’t be in it.

The creator of True Detective, Nic Pizzolatto, will be back writing all the episodes (as he did in season 1), so that’s something to cheer about. Pizzolatto will also direct a few eps, alongside Daniel Sackheim (The Leftovers, Game Of Thrones, The Americans) and Jeremy Saulnier (Blue Ruin, The Green Room).

Solid, solid mix right there.

The problem Pizzolatto is facing is the same one that faces all iconoclasts. Basically, how do you keep ‘iconoclasting’? How do you overthrow a medium you already overthrew last time?

He struggled with expectations in season 2, so we’ll set ours low for this one. Blow us away, Nic. Please. Blow us the hell away.
