Three’s A Trend | Matchey, Matchey At ComplexCon

By Jessica Pridmore

Okay, so the whole ‘matchey, matchey’ thing; technically it’s already been seen on a number of influential Koreans at Seoul Fashion Week. But trust the effortlessly hip Americans who flock to the USA’s largest trend prediction summit to take a micro trend and bust it wide open. Love it or loathe it, couples dressing is actually cool now.

Baes and besties to like-minded lovers alike were all about sartorial sharing at LA’s famed ComplexCon 2018. One of the largest summits of its kind in the world (and the brainchild of achingly cool lifestyle giant, Complex) this is the place to get a sneak peek on what’s new and trend-worthy (read: everything you’re about to see blowing up your Insta thread).

Brands like Reebok, Nike, Adidas Originals, AAPE, Extra Butter, and Chinatown Market to name a few all flock here to drop new releases, showcase new season and hint at upcoming collabs, so it’s no wonder that what everyone was wearing caught our eye.

So, among the cargo pants, hi tops, logo tees and fluoro hair, pairing up and complimenting your wardrobe with your mates was the look du jour.

Take your cues from your left and right; turns out matching your outfit with your bestie is pretty damn cool. Here’s three looks that did it best.

Triple Threat

Not ones to shy away from a bold look, rapping trio Gnarl3yboyz took the op at ComplexCon to up the ante, sporting head-to-toe custom Champion. Bonus points must be given to the lads for their matching hair and shades. The rapping trio looked the business in their same-same but different look, and we’ve never realised until now how much we wish we’d kept our high school sports kit…

A regular at the ComplexCon Marketplace—and known for their killer collabs (we’re looking at you, Reebok!)— Melody Ehsani’s 2018 drop has been one of the most highly anticipated of the year; beginning and end because the label has collaborated with r&b qween herself, Ms. Lauren Hill. Known for their bold take on athleisurewear, ME’s eclectic prints were a double knockout when worn in pairs at this year’s summit.

It wasn’t only celebrities and fashion designers taking their twin sets mainstream, influencers and the street style set were well onto the trend, with everyone from couples to girl gangs to pet lovers mixing and matching their fashion choices. Dabbling in the couple dressing trend while remaining a slave to the fashion world’s current obsession with label bashing, drape yourself in Louis V and make sure there’s enough to spare to rock this utterly extra take.

Not game for all over designer? Here’s something to get you started.

The trend certainly doesn’t lend itself to the wall flowers amongst us, but if you’re not into taking yourself too seriously and have a mate to match, then the world is your canvas, friends.
