Summer is pretty much so close we can almost smell it and to say we’re excited is an understatement. With the days getting warmer, Auckland is just keeps getting better and this weekend is chocka with theatre performances, festivals, tribute bands and flower shows. There’s something for everyone to enjoy in the last weekend of September.
Nuts And Bolts Presents ‘Vanilla Miraka’, ‘Banging Cymbal’ and ‘Clanging Gong’ | Basement Theatre
If you’re after some controversial—yet creative—theatre this weekend then head to the Basement for this trio of shows. Expect themes of self-exploration, ethical views, and questions of searching cultures to be explored in ‘Vanilla Miraka’, ‘Banging Cymbal’ and ‘Clanging Gong’. They’re sure to be thought-provoking and entertaining, so get on it.
2016 Orchid + Flower Show | ASB Showgrounds
It’s flower heaven for any gardener this weekend as the Orchid and Flower show is back! The show showcases displays from New Zealand gardening and orchid societies, growers and overseas participants, a photo competition, art displays, quilt displays and school children’s art. You’ll also find gardening workshops, talks and shopping stalls—this is sure to be an action-packed four days of gardening.
Menopause the Musical: Women on Fire | Skycity Theatre
Menopause The Musical takes hot flushes, mood swings and memory loss and turns them into a hilarious musical. Menopause The Musical is back at Skycity Theatre this weekend and follows four women with nothing in common, except the black lace bra they all want. The women poke fun of their woeful hot flushes, wrinkles, night sweats, and chocolate binges and a sisterhood is created between them. The musical features popular tunes from the 60s, 70s and 80s so head along for some laughs and a sing-along.
Festival For The Future | Aotea Centre
Festival For The Future is back for another year and promises to be an inspiring weekend for all. Festival For The Future is all about celebrating what’s possible for the next generation. Screenies: Children's International Film Festival | TAPAC
Screenies is a film festival with a difference! A unique cinema experience with a ‘festival’ feel that allows children and parents to enjoy films and workshops together. Hosted at TAPAC, the films range in genres, techniques, themes and come from all over the world. Some of the films that will be on show at Screenies include ‘Birds of Passage’, ‘Hordur’ and ‘The Navigator’.

Urban Street Fest | Grey Lynn
After an amazing debut, the Urban Street Fest is back for another night filled with great food, music and people. Beatlemania | Bruce Mason Centre
Relive the heyday of the Beatles with Beatlemania—On Tour which arrives in Auckland this weekend. This tribute show recreates a true Beatles experience, with authentic costumes, replica instruments and all of the songs will be performed in their original key.
