Must try: Fitness bowl
If the name doesn’t say it all, you’ll be sold when you read about this creative combo on Catroux's menu. With grilled halloumi, avocado, orange, rocket, tahini dressing, crunchy sprouts, toasted turmeric nuts and a poached egg, this combo just works. It has a bit’a everything and a great variety of textures. Pound the pavement in the morning and then repay the bod with this fittingly-named brunch.
Must try: Green smoothie
The virtuous menu is all vegetarian but almost everyone will be sure to find something that tickles their fancy. Kokako's green smoothie is one of he best in town and great paired with their potato, carrot, parsnip, mushroom hash with cashew cream—all about getting in your daily nutrition goals!
The Town Mouse
Must try: Roasted cauliflower and potato smash with poached eggs and broccolini
The Town Mouse is a fantastic brunch spot out in Pukekohe. If you're not from the area, you'll be pleased you made the trek when you get your mitts on their uber-healthy roasted cauliflower and potato smash with poached eggs and broccolini.
Must try: Super Bowl 2.0
The Super Bowl 2.0 sugar-free breakfast bowl of coconut pannacotta, berries, chia, nut clusters and granita tastes almost like a dessert but without all that pesky added white crap. Welcome Eatery's torched eggs are also worth a special mention (a reincarnation on their recent spectacular collab with the Midnight Baker and Supreme Coffee for Popped Culture #2). With two poached eggs, asparagus, busted freedom loaf, provolone cheese and beetroot salt you'll be skipping through your week!
Must try: Paleo Feast
Whoever said healthy can't equate to substantial should perch themselves on a chair at The Craft Kitchen. Get your inner caveman or woman on and order yourself the Paleo Feast. After finishing off your plate of 12-hour organic beef, paleo toast, sausies, kumara hash and gravy you'll be ready to tackle any beast required.
Takapuna Beach Cafe
Must try: Brunch salad
If it’s got salad in title it’s gotta be healthy right?! Sadly, not so, just ask old mate Caesar. Takapuna Beach Café’s brunch salad on the other hand, is a nutritionally sound option with fava beans, peas, kale, halloumi and poached eggs. Get amongst this salad for breakfast thing—your bod will thank you.
Must try: Israeli breakfast
You'll notice the breakfast salad getting a lot of traction on this list for both health and taste factors. For a Middle-Eastern twist on this phenomenon try Ima's Israeli breakfast of chopped salad, labaneh (a pro-biotic yoghurt-cheese), olives, tahini and a free range egg.
Must try: Clean & Lean
If you're into your protein in a big way you'll be delighted with GAINZ's Eatery on Princess Wharf. The menu is full of nutritional info and jam-packed with seriously lean options, but our pick is the Clean & Lean: a four egg white/ two yolk omelette filled with veggies and avo. Best enjoyed after a serious sweat sesh at nearby Les Mills or Hot Yoga Britomart. Dem Gainz Though.
The Raw Kitchen
Must try: PB&J on toast
This ain’t no ordinary PB&J. This classic favourite has been seriously healthified—organic peanut butter matched perfectly with a generous dollop of chia berry jam sitting atop a slice of activated bread. This is just one of the Raw Kitchen’s daily bruschetta options, but we can see why it’s the most popular. Make sure to grab one of their raw and refined sugar-free treats from the cabinet on the way out.
Must try: Herbed broken eggs
Major Sprout may be a AKL newbie but he's becoming a serious major player when it comes to wholesome brunch offerings. Check out the Herbed Broken Eggs with asparagus and zucchini or the Quinoa and Brown Rice Fritters with smoked salmon for a truly righteous beginning to the day.
