What’ve you got in store for us, September? If this weekend is anything to go by, it’s going to be incredible. The first weekend of September in Auckland brings us international films, fashion, markets, live music and of course a heap of scrumptious food. We've searched high and low for the places to be and things to do during our three fave days of the week—now you just go out and enjoy 'em!

It’s also time to give a special shout-out and celebrate the dads in our lives and all that they do, with a whole heap of activities he (and you!) are bound to love. Bring on the weekend. I’s going to be a cracker.

All Weekend

Japanese Film Festival

Experience Japanese culture through the magic of film. Back again for another stellar year of laughs, tears and maybe a bit of craziness, there’s ten Japanese films for you to catch in the first weekend of September. From a heart-wrenching drama, a high school flick, samurais, dysfunctional families, and a whole lotta love stories—you’re bound to find the Japanese film you didn’t know you needed. If that wasn’t enough convincing, it’s also FREE admission. Get booking!

The Ryman Healthcare Season of Romeo and Juliet

Fall in love this winter at Royal New Zealand Ballet’s world premiere of Romeo and Juliet. This is Royal New Zealand Ballet’s biggest production of the year, and you don't wanna miss it. Shakespeare’s greatest love story comes to life in this three-act ballet by Francesco Ventrigilla. A sunlit piazza, the candlelit corner of a noble ballroom, a moonlit balcony…when young lovers meet, the world is stilled… then changed forever.

Kellogg’s Café

Nothin’ like a bit of cereal to start your day, and nothin’ like eating corn flakes for a good cause! This pop-up breakfast with a difference is going down at Aotea Square—Kellogg’s is dishing up five cereal-inspired recipes to spice up your morning, with all proceeds going to Auckland City Mission. Cut into a hot Scotched Egg coated in a Kellogg's cornflake crumb, sink your teeth into a Rice Bubbles French toast with caramelised peaches and raspberry compote, or get amongst a slice of banana, coconut and all-bran loaf!

Matilda the Musical

A little genius is coming to Auckland and her name is Matilda. This multi-award winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company, inspired by the beloved book by the incomparable Roald Dahl, has received rave reviews across the ditch in Aus. It's the story of an extraordinary girl, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind. It's also a winner of over 70 international awards and is on a strictly limited season in Auckland, so get in quick!

A Streetcar Named Desire

This is the jewel in Silo Theatre’s 20th birthday crown. One of the most celebrated plays of the 20th Century, whether it's your first or fiftieth time, you best go see it! A contemporary take on Tennessee Williams’ devastating masterpiece, the violent portrayal of femininity, masculinity and sexuality still feels powerful in its exploration of desire and domestic brutality.

New Zealand Fashion Weekend

Following a jam-packed New Zealand Fashion Week, this is your chance to delve into the energy and glamour of New Zealand Fashion Weekend. In-season runway shows include Andrea Moore, Hailwood, WORLD, Yu Mei, Kate Sylvester, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Salasai and so many more. There’ll be fashion seminars, and your ticket includes access to the Beauty Hub and the designer pop-up sale!

Friday 1st September

Blonde Poison

This premier production of a brand spankin’ new theatre company Plumb Productions is going to Blow. You. Away. Inspired by the true story of Stella Goldschlag, it tells the haunting story of a Jewish woman living illegally in war-torn Berlin. Betrayed, and tortured, she agreeds to become a Gestapo informer in exchange for her life and the lives of her beloved family.

The Roaming Kitchen

We can’t go past a scrumptious food truck, and we know you can’t either. Let us introduce you to Urban Street Fest’s cool little brother The Roaming Kitchen! Making its home by the Orakei Community Centre, the line-up at this rad little spot includes faves like The Rolling Pin, Double Dutch Fries, Pork ‘n’ Beans, Rawe, The Brulee Bike, Bow and Tie Micro Brewery, Mister Gelato and Temaki Truck. Drooling yet? You won’t have to wait long ‘cause this kicks off the first day of September.

Saturday 2nd September

Weddings Matakana Expo 2017

Visit one of New Zealand’s most boutique wedding destinations, and see your Pinterest board come to life. Run wild with the top wedding suppliers, from florists and hair stylists to venues and caterers on the Matakana Coast. You’ll be sure to find everything you need to make that special day perfect. Spring Festival

Welcome spring with open arms and celebrate father’s day at Cornwall Park. Catch the new calves and lambs, flowers in full bloom and some more hidden gems on the spring trail. End the trail and head onto the Arboretum where there’ll be classic music and games galore, perfect for the whole family—think Connect Four, croquet, and even a bit of backyard cricket. Pack some sammies, juice and sunscreen and make a day of it!

Wild Wheels Father’s Day

This iconic MOTAT exhibit is back! Packed with transport history, innovative technology, and music, it’s a day out perfect for the whole family. Get amongst the Auckland car club scene and meet the local club members exhibiting an impressive line up of cars. There’s even the new breed of technologically advanced electric vehicles from Tesla on show.
