Get ready for the spookiest weekend of the year. Halloween is upon us and the creepiness is beginning this weekend, with MOTAT’s Masquerade party, a Scream-a-thon, and a spooky joke party. But, if being terrified just ain’t your thing, then never fear as there’s still plenty of other things to do in Auckland this weekend.
Big Boys Toys | ASB Showgrounds
The biggest, baddest toy show is back! Big Boy Toys his the ASB Showgrounds this weekend and (as you can guess) it’s bigger and better than ever before. This year the big feature, the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 is being flown in for the weekend. There’s also a heap more cars—from ones you can drive home to ones you can only dream of owning, there will also be some extreme sport action, excavators and motocross.
Kiwi Heroes | The Basement Theatre
The cult-hit comedy talk show Kiwi Heroes Live is coming to Auckland this weekend. Hosted by Guy Williams and Joseph Moore, the guys will interview a lineup of comedians poorly impersonating famous New Zealanders such as Ernest Rutherford, Lorde, Sam Neill, Jean Batten, Suzy Cato, The Guy From The Feelers and many more. This show is completely improvised and guarantees to be a very insane and very funny night of comedy
Volume: Making Music In Aotearoa | Auckland Museum
Love music, and New Zealand music in particular? Then head along to the Auckland Museum this weekend for the first ever exhibition of our country’s music. Volume: Making Music in Aotearoa will take you on a journey through your life (and err…maybe your mama’s and grandma’s too) with the likes of Loyal, Royals, Poi E and right back to the good ol’ 50s! Don’t be fooled because it’s not all about the listening…you can step into a recording studio, pretend you’re a DJ (you’ve always wanted to, right?), learn to play and so much more!

Bill Bailey ‘Larks In Transit’ | ASB Theatre
It’s been 20 years—yes 20—since Bill Bailey last performed in New Zealand, but he’s finally back, and with a brand new show. He’s been traveling the world for the last couple of decades and has gathered a whole lotta tales along the way, and they come together in Larks in Transit. Tackling everything from politics to philosophy, to happiness to death metal, and even an encounter with Paul McCartney, it’s a journey you don’t want to miss.

Outdoor Movie: The Rocky Horror Picture Show | NorthWest Shopping Centre
Do the time warp (literally) and head to Auckland’s newest shopping centre, Northwest, this Friday for a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Bring a blanket, pick-up some treats and find a good spot to sit back and enjoy.
Food Space | Downtown
It’s all about the good times with sweet tunes and street food at Food Space in Downtown. This weekend is their final market and you can expect all the favourites you know and love. Wise Boys will be serving up their burgers, House of Dumplings will be serving up their (you guessed it) dumplings and Mr. Dog Frites has their delicious hot dogs. Toro Churro, Taco Loco, Langos Hungarian, CheLucio BBQ, Temaki Truck, Got Pasta, The Fab Truck and RAWE will also be there.

MOTAT Masquerade | MOTAT
It’s easily one of the best nights of the year, and if you’ve never been to MOTAT’s Halloween party, then make this Saturday the night you do so. Dress up in your spookiest and walk around the historic venue and take part in the various activities—Dr. Frankenstein bringing a monster to life or explore the haunted maze of Dr. Jekyll’s lair—among many others.
Vengaboys | Bruce Mason Centre
The Venga bus is coming, and everyone is jumping, New York to San Francisco…to Auckland! Yep, the '90s are back as the Vengaboys hit the Bruce Mason Centre this Saturday night where you’ll dance along to We Like To Party, Shalala Lala and all your old faves.
Spooky Joke Party | Basement Theatre
They hit the Comedy Festival with a bang, and now the Dope Joke Party returns this weekend—except this time it’s spooky! The evening is hosted by Joseph Moore and includes a line-up of the country’s best comics. Expect all the lols.

A tad obsessed with the Scream movies, were you? Then head along to the fifth annual Scream-a-thon at this K Road venue. It’s been an incredible 20 years since the first of the Scream movies was released, and this party plays the four films back-to-back. Hola! If you love all things Mexican, then head along to The Cloud on Saturday for the Mexfestival. Expect full immersion in this fabulous culture with a Mariachi band, Aztec dance performances, singers, more dancers, arts, crafts and food!
