things to do this weekend in auckland

Get ready for the spookiest weekend of the year. Halloween is upon us and the creepiness is beginning this weekend, with MOTAT’s Masquerade party, a Scream-a-thon, and a spooky joke party. But, if being terrified just ain’t your thing, then never fear as there’s still plenty of other things to do in Auckland this weekend.

All Weekend

Big Boys Toys | ASB Showgrounds

The biggest, baddest toy show is back! Big Boy Toys his the ASB Showgrounds this weekend and (as you can guess) it’s bigger and better than ever before. This year the big feature, the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 is being flown in for the weekend. There’s also a heap more cars—from ones you can drive home to ones you can only dream of owning, there will also be some extreme sport action, excavators and motocross.

Kiwi Heroes | The Basement Theatre

The cult-hit comedy talk show Kiwi Heroes Live is coming to Auckland this weekend. Hosted by Guy Williams and Joseph Moore, the guys will interview a lineup of comedians poorly impersonating famous New Zealanders such as Ernest Rutherford, Lorde, Sam Neill, Jean Batten, Suzy Cato, The Guy From The Feelers and many more. This show is completely improvised and guarantees to be a very insane and very funny night of comedy

Volume: Making Music In Aotearoa | Auckland Museum

Love music, and New Zealand music in particular? Then head along to the Auckland Museum this weekend for the first ever exhibition of our country’s music. Volume: Making Music in Aotearoa will take you on a journey through your life (and err…maybe your mama’s and grandma’s too) with the likes of Loyal, Royals, Poi E and right back to the good ol’ 50s!  Don’t be fooled because it’s not all about the listening…you can step into a recording studio, pretend you’re a DJ (you’ve always wanted to, right?), learn to play and so much more!

Thursday 27th October

Bill Bailey ‘Larks In Transit’ | ASB Theatre

It’s been 20 years—yes 20—since Bill Bailey last performed in New Zealand, but he’s finally back, and with a brand new show. He’s been traveling the world for the last couple of decades and has gathered a whole lotta tales along the way, and they come together in Larks in Transit. Tackling everything from politics to philosophy, to happiness to death metal, and even an encounter with Paul McCartney, it’s a journey you don’t want to miss.
