Hold up, where did that month just go?! If you hadn’t been keeping track, we have a newsflash for you—it’s already the last weekend of October! But thankfully, the fun is just about to begin. The days are longer and summer is pretty much just around the corner, and this weekend is jam-packed with good stuff for just about everybody.

This weekend there’s a chance to spruce up your home, groove at a couple festivals, let your creativity flow, get a lush new hairdo for charity and so much more—get planning for a weekend of epic proportions ahead.

Auckland Better Home and Living Show 2017 

Is home needing a bit of a spring spruce up? Packed with hundreds of products and ideas for your home, the Auckland Better Home and Living Show is true #interiorporn. Filled with sustainable ideas for you're the indoors and out, massive show-only specials, free seminars, this is a must-see event for home and lifestyle lovers! Whammy Fest 2017

Celebrate 10 years of the iconic Whammy Bar—10 years since Rohan and Mikey opened the doors, 3 years since Lu and Tom kept going and 18 months since Backroom joined the underground party. Expect a line up of epic proportions, including Yoko-Zuna, Eyeliner, Dad Jokes, Creatures, Echo Ohs and so much more. Plus, there’s a vegan pie eating contest, special beer launch and so much more!

Kingsland Blocktoberfest

Kick off the weekend the right way, 'cause it's party time in Kingsland! This Saturday is your chance to get your creative juices flowing—Mexican style. Marina Cantina is hosting a Margarita Paint Party where rookie artists paint a Day of the Dead sugar skull while knocking back margaritas. Now THAT’S our idea of an art class! Hosted by Mixing It Up, you’ll get everything you need to create your very own Mexican masterpiece as well as a refreshing margarita and a mouth-watering taco. The best artist on the day will nab a $50 Marina Cantina voucher so they can eat their body-weight in burritos—yass!

Whips n Spurs

If your perfect weekend involves cocktails and good times, head to Ellerslie Racecourse this Saturday. Whips n Spurs kicks off the racing season in epic style with an all-day party not to be missed. The action-packed day involves all that is good in life: Champagne and cocktails, the Spring Filly best-dressed competition and live music—including a set from Sydney’s Mia Paris. Pro tip: arrive hungry because there’s also an unmissable Vietnamese street food pop-up. Round up your nearest and dearest, get your hair did and party the weekend away.

Green Bay Street Food

Last time was so good they’ve brought it back—if it's your first time or you’re an avid fan, you’re best to start getting a group of mates sorted to hit this zero waste street food fiesta! There’s a whole global load of goodness this time round, with street food vendors like Mama Tahina, Fab Truck, Double Dutch Fries, Akemis, Mister Gelato and plant-based The Other Side, as well as so many more. As you scoff as much street food as poss, resident band The Repeats will be entertaining you, with a special appearance by the Titirangi Volunteer Fire Brigade!  This night out is all about giving back—volunteers run it all and all vendors’ fees go back to the community house. Get ready for a feel good, scrumptious night!

If a cold craft beer is the brew of your choice, this Tap Takeover is made for you. It’s a pint off between The Sawmill Brewery and Brothers Beer, going head to head in an all-out king of the keg showdown! Vote for your favourite beer, and the winner takes the tap! Sawmill is bringing out their guns with their Pilsner, IPA, XPA, Festbier and Seasonal brew. Show Me Shorts

The 12th Edition of the Show Me Shorts Festival is taking place in more than 20 cinemas around the nation! Seven Auckland cinemas take part in this special festival, celebrating international and domestic short films. This is New Zealand’s first Academy Awards Accredited Festival and the first film festival in the country to achieve it! Keep an eye out for the program, these films may be small but they sure will pack a punch!

MexFestival

Say ¡hola! to the biggest Mexican festival in New Zealand. Expect delicious Mexican food and traditional drink, Mariachi bands, Mexican folk dance, arts and crafts as well as a great Day of the Dead Altar exhibition! Oktoberfest At The Franklin

There’s no need to head to Munich to celebrate Oktoberfest—the celebrations are coming to Auckland this Sunday! Kicking off from midday, The Franklin will be celebrating Oktoberfest with hot dogs, meat platters, live music and—of course—plenty of beersies. The first 100 Oktober-festers through the door can get a one-litre stein filled with Carlsberg beer for just $20. Pass the afternoon away in the sun-drenched Biergarten while White Chapel Jak keep the party going with toe-topping covers.
