17 Terrific Things To Do In Auckland This Weekend

Although the back-to-work grind might seem slower than ever, your New Year’s resolutions are slowly being written off by all the new restaurant openings and the traffic is picking up again—calling for a full-blown psychotic episode in gridlock. Never fear, the weekend is here! No weekend is a boring one in this fabulous city of ours, and this one is no different.

From markets and movies to an eating contest and a wine market, there really is something for everyone this weekend. Without further ado, here are all the fabulous things things to do in Auckland this weekend.

Silo Park Slugger | Silo Park

Try your hand at Auckland’s very own summer batting cage. For an easy $2, you can try your hand at hitting a home run in the pitching and batting baseball cages. Pick up some grub at the weekend markets and cheer your team on in the mini grandstand. Time to knock it out of the park!

Hipstamatic’s Soul Revue Tour 2017 | Ponsonby

Find your dancing shoes, stat! Taking inspiration from '70s icons like Marvin Gaye, James Brown and Stevie Wonder, this dynamic 11-piece band is taking over Ponsonby Social Club. They’ll get you groovin’ into the weekend with their funky live set.

Stardome Movie Night – Back to the Future | Manukau

Head back to 1985 with Marty McFly in this unforgettable sci-fi blockbuster. Bring the kids along to feast their eyes on this classic at the 6pm screening, or come along to the 8:30pm screening for a ticket that includes a glass of wine and snacks. Date night!

Mixit: This Way Out | Henderson

This is the tale of everyday heroes—and you’re invited! This is a Pick-A-Path quest of overcoming challenges that’s lead by you and undertaken by a cast of 25 young talents. Mixit takes young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds on a journey of creativity to create a stunning dance, music and storytelling masterpiece.

World Cinema: Diarios de Motocicleta | Silo Park

Silo Park is the place to be at 5pm with everything Aucklanders love—food trucks galore, a bar full of craft brew and vino, and night markets! At 9pm is the award-winning movie The Motorcycle Diaries, following the story of Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevera’s journey from Brazil to Peru by motorcycle.

Movies in Parks: Alice Through the Looking Glass | Mairangi Bay

Lewis Carroll’s beloved characters come to life in this stunning film, starring an unforgettable cast. Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returns to the mystical Underland to help the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) who has lost his Muchness. There’s face painting and a special magic show before the film, so pack a picnic and head along to this free event of magic and mystery.

SUP Paddle for Hope Fundraising Challenge | Orakei

This community fundraising and paddle-boarding challenge needs you (plus three!) to step up to the challenge. It’s your chance to try your hand at stand up paddle boarding and raise some money for cancer rehabilitation. It’s a day of fun on and off the beach that’ll do your heart good and go to some fabulous causes.
