Auckland has dished up some fabulous goings-on this month, so it’s time to get your diaries out—late night gallery trips, rare beer tastings, comedy festivals, and 18 other glorious events await you!
Auckland International Cultural Festival | 2 April
Zip around the world in a day at the wonderful Auckland International Cultural Festival celebrating the diversity of Auckland and its cultures. There’s going to be chock-a-block of music, dance and even cultural sports for you to watch AND participate in. What’s more, they’ll be sure to look after your appetite, so make sure you prepare your stomach (and maybe an elasticated waistband) for some cultural delights, from Turkish gozleme and Hungarian fried bread puffs, to Japanese taiyaki and Italian cannelloni!
Cosmic Shambles Live | 4 April
TED Talk meets mystery meets science meets a whole lot of fun! Cosmic Shambles is a one night only event that's taken the UK by storm, and discover more about the earth, laugh at the self-proclaimed ‘interested idiot’ Robin Ince, and be treated to some stellar live music. Guests will include Dr Michelle Dickinson, top kiwi science brain, Matt Parker, ‘stand up mathematician’ (the only kind of math we like), Professor Lucy Green, one of the world’s most respected solar scientist and lots of other mystery guests. You won’t see science the same again!
The Body Laid Bare: Open Lates | 4 April
This is one special night to get up close and personal with Auckland Art Gallery’s stunning new exhibit. Sensational and provocative, The Body Laid Bare will let you encounter the human form through art like never before. Co-curated by the masterminds at the Tate Modern in London, this night will have an extra cool kick with VICE DJs, beer and wine from Epic Bar and lots of food on offer.
Ben And Jerry’s Free Cone Day | 4 April
Yep, you read that right! It’s FREE Cone Day from one of the greatest ice cream purveyors of them all, with their fudgy, creamy and gooey delights going for zero moolah! Celebrating being another year older with ice cream (the best way to celebrate obvs), make sure you get to the Ponsonby or Takapuna Scoop Shop on the 4th between 12pm to 4pm!
New Zealand House & Garden Tour | 7 April
You know all those beautiful, elaborate homes in New Zealand House & Garden you just can’t help lusting over? This is your time to experience them in person and raise money for breast cancer! Get some serious house inspo on the final leg of the nationwide tour of New Zealand House & Garden Tour, of seven to nine breathtaking houses around Auckland. The Hub will be open as the heart of the tour, with food stalls and tour bags galore!
The Great Auckland Flash Party | 7—8 April
If you’ve been thinking about getting some new ink, this just might be the perfect event for it. Some of the most creative and diverse tattoo talents at Sunset Tattoo and internationally, are coming together for this two-day event of killer spontaneity for The Great Auckland Flash Party. Hundreds of stunning line drawings will be ready to be tattooed at equally stunning prices—first in, first serve!
Alberton Market Days | 9 April
This totally stroll-worthy Mt Eden markets has all the goods—artisan stalls, a pop-up tearoom, fresh produce as well as locally made crafts! Definitley one of the most loved, and enduring shows of all time is hitting Auckland! Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat is back with an internationally renowned cast to tell the Biblical story of Joseph, his 11 scheming brothers and of course his crazy kaleidoscope of a coat! We don’t mind if you sing and dance your way through the whole thing!
Rare And Wild Tasting | 19 April
Auckland local Brothers Beer have collaborated with Beers Without Borders for a hell of a night of beer tasting. This night features some of the rarest and sour styles of beer available internationally, including ‘Baird Ganko Oyaji’, ‘Almanac Grand Cru White’, ‘Almanac Grand Cru Red’ and ‘Freigeist Kopenickade Vineyard Peach’ (try and say THAT three times quickly!). It’s okay if this is all gibberish to you now—once you finish, you’ll be a full-blown beerhead!
The Jungle Book | 21—30 April
You’ve seen it at the movies, now it’s time to see it live! Ruyard Kipling’s classic The Jungle Book comes to life for an epic journey through the jungle in this TheatreWorks production. Adapted and directed by Jason Moffatt, see all the well-loved characters in this fabulous production—Mowgli, Bagheera, Baloo and the lot!
Crafternoon Tea Market | 22 April
Aren’t New Zealanders just the craftiest? Loads of stallholders come together at the Crafternoon Tea Market in this fabulous market for fashion, home wares, stationery and kids’ products. Illuminate | 22—24 April
View some rarely seen footage from the Western Front from World War I under the stars, as they get projected onto the Auckland Museum at Illuminate. There’ll also be footage from the first ever conscription ballot take place, as well as work of the medical corps and, even video from an All Blacks rugby game playing France during wartime.
Record Store Day | 22 April
Auckland music scene institution Real Groovy is hosting its 10th annual Record Store Day! To celebrate this milestone, they're going bigger than ever—live in-store performances, freebies, food and coffee and of course, more music than you can poke a stick at! Auckland Philharmonia At Pop-up Globe | 23 April

This month of sidesplitting comedy kicks off at the end of April, and there’s already so much to see before the month ends! International and local comedy headliners such as Abandoman, Andy Zaltzman, Dope Joke Party and Guy Williams are all kicking off the Auckland International Festival with a bang (and a giggle). They’re taking place at 15 venues all around Auckland so wherever you are, make sure you get that dopamine fix!
Urban Street Fest | 27 April
We’re sure Auckland’s precarious weather has dampened your plans in one way or another these last few months, but Urban Street Fest knows what’s up—this totally indoor festival at Orakei Basin is exactly what the doctor ordered. Auckland’s fave food trucks—Got Pasta, Judge Bao, Double Dutch Fries, The Rolling Pin plus heaps more will be all under one roof! Festival perfection, if we do say ourselves!
Gin Immersion | 29 April
Gin lovers rejoice! The Gin Immersion workshop is all about making your very own artisan gin from grain spirit using fresh, organic botanicals. Set in the very appropriate Auckland Botanical Gardens, see the process of making a classic style dry gin and add your own botanical essences to make it exactly to your taste. Plus, make a bitter tonic so you can enjoy a gin martini at the end of the workshop—you deserve it!
