Every December, Franklin Road gets totally lit—with Christmas lights that is. In a tradition spanning 20 years, the residents of Auckland's most festive street go all-out, decking their homes with bells and holly and falalalala.
Billy Elliot The Musical | ASB Waterfront Theatre
The Auckland Theatre Company is bringing the inspirational story of the boy who made his dreams come true. The Great KidsCan Santa Run/Walk | Various Locations
Be part of a crowd of Santas, elves, reindeer and more in The Great KidsCan Santa Run/Walk this weekend. With 20 events across New Zealand, you’ll be supporting KidsCan while getting your exercise in with this 2 to 3km run/walk. Pop-Up South Market | Wynyard Quarter
Starting this weekend, head down to Wynard Quarter for free entry into a diverse market full of unique Polynesian gifts for your Christmas shopping, at Pop-Up South Market. There’s no doubt you’ll come out with something for yourself.
Great Christmas Giveback | Stardome Observatory & Planetarium
Christmas is about getting, but even more about giving. Bring along a gift or cash donation for the SPCA Auckland or Auckland City Mission to Stardome and they’ll give you a discounted $6 ticket to a Stardome show.
The Opening Night Before Christmas | Basement Theatre
Into its eighth year, Basement Theatre’s Annual Christmas show starts this weekend and it’s not to be missed. Set in Levin, the story centers around a theatre group that must rehearse a Christmas show in a daunting 24 hours. The best part? ganTREE Christmas | Silo Park
Silo Park is inviting you to do the honours—decorating their Christmas ganTREE! The three-level gantry structure is getting a Christmas makeover, and with lots of large-scale ornaments to decorate, you’ll have to bring the whole family.
JAWS In The Pool | Various Locations
Ever fancied watching cult-classic JAWS while your feet dangle vulnerably in the water? Me neither. BUT, if that water is in one of the great pools across Auckland, it could be a great way to give yourself the heebie-jeebies without actually swimming at shark-infested Amity Island. Citta New Opening | Newmarket
Homeware lovers, rejoice! Città Design have opened their flagship store in Newmarket and they’re celebrating this weekend. The store is divided into ‘spaces’ showcasing beautifully curated bathrooms, bedrooms, lounge areas and dining rooms, and in-house stylists help you pick out the perfect pieces. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be Duck Island ice cream (a special Città ice tea flavour) and beach bag giveaways if you spend more than 100 bux!

7 Days Live | The Civic
As 7 Days comes to an end on TV for the year, the cast is coming to The Civic for an uncensored, unedited live show. Seven of New Zealand’s most well-known comedians will have you in stiches in this no-holds-barred night of comedy. Tickets here.

Dust off those leather jackets! Grease is coming to SKYCITY Theatre. All your karaoke nights are about to pay off—get ready to sing your heart out through all of the iconic songs. Friday 9th December
Silo Cinema | Silo Park
The Silo Cinema will be in full swing for another weekend of big-screen fun. Start the night off with a wander through the markets and grab some grub from one of the food trucks. Make sure you get in early to secure the best position in front of the silos to watch the much-loved ’89 classic, When Harry Met Sally.
Outdoor Movie: Night At The Museum | Northwest Shopping Centre
If Harry meeting Sally ain’t your jam, Northwest Shopping Centre’s got you covered for your Friday night outdoor movies. They’re screening Night at the Museum for a classic family comedy. Movie snacks essential.
Orewa Xmas Twilight Market | Orewa Community Centre
For some Christmas shopping with heart, why not visit the Orewa Xmas Twilight Market? Of course our two faves—street food and Santa—will be there to top off the night. Open til 9pm, and with 81 spaces booked, you’re sure to find something extra special.

Britomart Day Out | Takutai Square
Our fave French market, La Cigale market will be in extra festive this Saturday at Britomart Day Out, with lots of goodies perfect for Christmas pressies and the usual favourite market treats. There’ll also be live entertainment, arts and crafts for the little ones and Christmas trees for sale! Local businesses will be getting on board with discounts on the day.
Christmas in the Park | Auckland Domain
What do you get when you cross amazing, live performances with some of New Zealand’s favourite musicians, festive fireworks and visits from Santa Claus? Christmas in the Park, that’s what! Held at the Auckland Domain, this free, fun, family event is back and bigger than ever. With a stellar line up, including Stan Walker, Tami Nelson and The Koi Boys, this is one event that is sure to get you in the festive spirit.
Takapuna Beach Christmas Carnival | Takapuna
Promising to bigger and better than last year, this North Shore event is sure to be one to remember. With a host of activities, food trucks, live music and performances, the Takapuna Beach Christmas Carnival is not one to miss! Rumour has it that they’ve even had to close the street to fit it all in!
Pop-Up Market | Mt Eden
