5 Amazing Things To Do In Auckland This Week

Advent calendars have been opened, Christmas trees are undergoing the decoration process and work is getting just that lil bit more hectic. That’s right, it’s December! And good news, December comes hand in hand with a whole lotta fun. Here at The Urban List, we want to encourage you to treat yourself this month, and of course, get amongst the holiday feels.

As per the holiday season, Auckland is rounding up a heap of amazing things for you to do this week. So, embrace the Christmas spirit and get amongst it, we sure will!

Monday 4 December

Late-Night Cocktail Hour At Saan

The countdown to the 25th is well and truly on and with this, comes alllll the feels of marvelling at Franklin Road’s annual Christmas lights. This is one extravaganza that not many Aucklanders miss because really, it just doesn’t get old. To make it even better, Saan restaurant is hosting late-night cocktail happy hours every night this December. From 9.30pm until closing you can enjoy one of Saan’s beautiful cocktails for just $12.50. Ooh and aah at the awesomeness that is the Franklin Road display, and then head up the hill for a bevvy. We are recommending the daring Thai chocolate martini or, if you’re feelin’ adventurous, opt for the Saan Tom Yum martini. Cheers!

Tuesday 5 December

Sia Concert

The most-streamed female artist on Spotify last year, Sia, is gracing us lucky Aucklanders with an epic performance this week. If you haven’t already, be sure to grab yourself some tickets to the Sia concert this Tuesday! The show will feature those hit songs that we all love, ‘Chandelier’, ‘Elastic Heart’, ‘Clap Your Hands’, alongside her other awesome tracks from her 2016 album. Making the celebration just that extra bit awesome, Charli XCX, Mo, Theia and Maddie Ziegler will be performing as special guests. What better way to spend your Tuesday night?!

Wednesday 6 December

Santa Claus At Basement Theatre

If you’ve got a sense of humour and an enthusiasm for Christmas then we know exactly how you should be spending your hump day this week! Head to basement theatre to watch the annual, chaotic Christmas performance of Santa Claus by A Slightly Isolated Dog. Combining an awesomely talented cast and a raucous, humourous style, you’re guaranteed to have a blast. The performance also acts as the theatre’s only fundraiser and all profits go into their development programmes for artists. Good feels and a good time, how could we say no?!

Thursday 7 December

Christmas Present Hunter

With December season unwinding all around us, inevitably a lot more time will be spent shopping than during the rest of 2017. Well, we’ve got good news! General Collective Connect, a collaboration with Generator, is offering a new and fun way to do your Christmas shopping this year. The event will act as a Christmas Present Hunter (ah, awesome?!). A carefully curated selection of high quality, unique brands will be on offer with a focus on New Zealand made and shopping local. As an added bonus, delish street vendors will be onsite to satisfy all your mid-shopping cravings. Shop till you drop, or at least until you work up a decent appetite! Sounds like a day we wanna be a part of!

Urban Street Fest

Food trucks, late night shopping and a pop-up bar. How could we not mention The Urban Street Fest? Located in Milford, this event will showcase the likes of Double Dutch Fries, Moustache, Play Dough Pizza, Brothers Beer and several other mouth-wateringly good eats. It will provide you with an opportunity to enjoy the live music and tunes of Lee Gray Music, devour the delish food, get amongst some late-night shopping and of course, sip on a drink (or two). Be sure to check it out!
