For most of us, Monday to Friday is a bit of a slump. So, the weekend is the time to treat yo’self and, to be frank, there is no better way than with food. Food makes everything better, so here are our top picks of cafes and restaurants to visit in Auckland this weekend. From Asian fusion to oh-so delicious doughnuts, Auckland’s food game is hella strong and we LOVE it.

Mekong Baby

Ponsonby

Oh baby! Mekong Baby is the way to our heart. Their must-try dish is the betel leaves—on top you’ll find a dose of crab, kaffir lime and caviar. Make sure you wrap these bad boys up (yes, leaf included). These little morsels will leave you with an Asian flavour explosion. For those who are looking for some comfort, their Mekong Baby Roti Bread is as flaky and buttery as can be. Situated smack bang on Ponsonby Road, Mekong baby is perfect for any lunch or dinner plans this weekend.

The Smoothie Bowl

Takapuna

Smoothie bowls have taken over Auckland and we think that makes it enough of a reason to visit The Smoothie Bowl this weekend. Because us Aucklanders can no longer suffice slurping on a smoothie in a cup, it HAS to be served in a coconut bowl with a healthy sprinkling of granola and our favourite fruit toppings—all for the Gram, of course. With smoothie bowls made with Pics peanut butter, you will be nuts if you’re not already in love. If the weather delivers, make sure you take a stroll along Takapuna Beach, with said smoothie bowl in your hand.

Milse

CBD

It is a known fact that Milse serves up the Auckland’s best gelato sticks and, although summer is already over, it is still perfectly acceptable to be licking through them, no matter the weather. With flavours like bombe Alaska, salted caramel and pecan, matcha green tea and strawberry, you’ll want more than one. Nestle yourself into their cosy store in the hub on Britomart, so the perfect one-stop-shop after a long day of shopping in the city (it’s hard life!).

Little and Friday

Newmarket and Ponsonby

Little and Friday have been aiding Aucklanders’ doughnut addiction since 2007. Like seriously, their donuts are to DIE for. With flavours like chilli chocolate, crème brulee, raspberry and cream and more on rotation, it’s the perfect excuse to visit on a regular basis. Some argue that you can’t just fill up on sweet treats—and while we would like to disagree—Little and Friday has an epic cabinet full of gourmet sandwiches, quiches, and all kinds of savoury goodness. The goodies at Little and Friday sell out fast, so be a true Aucklander and suit up in your active wear, because brunching is a sport.

Winona Forever

Parnell

Head along to Parnell this weekend for delicious tasty treats, including doughnuts, classic caramel slice and Winona Forever specialty French Toast Eton Mess with Gin Raspberry Compote. With delicious coffee, as well as bubbles on offer, this is one place that needs to be on your weekend bucket list!
