5 Escapes For This Long Easter Weekend

The ultimate long weekend of all the long weekends is coming up, and it is thanks to our very favourite chocolate-centered holiday… — Easter! This also, sadly, marks the end of sunshine- filled days and balmy summer nights, it’s our last chance to hit the road one more time before it’s full steam ahead into dreary winter. Pack your bags, grab as many choccy eggs as your hands and pockets can carry, and hit one of our five5 top fave long weekend destinations!

Tawharanui Regional Park

A short drive up and through Matakana will lead you to the golden beaches and lush green grass of Tawharanui Regional Park. The little north beachside spot is a protected area with all sorts wandering around in and out of the water—it’s even home to a few cheeky kiwi birds! There’s camping available with multiple hiking tracks, mountain biking, boating, and secluded stretches of sand to relax back on. What better way to spend the last weekend of sun in the great outdoors?

The summer hot spot that is the city of Tauranga is one of our fave getaway destinations for a long weekend. There’s plenty to see, do, and eat in The Mount, as well as securing that classic just-hiked- up-The- Mount Insta pic. If you’re looking for a more tranquil weekend away then may we suggest the beautiful and luxurious escape that is Phoenix Valley. Hidden away from the busy city and designed to put you into a complete state of comfort, why not treat yourself this long weekend?!

Waiheke Island

Take a short ferry ride from the Auckland CBD to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enter the capital of relaxtion: Waiheke Island. As a wine country, holiday escape, and beach haven all in one, Waiheke has a hell of a lot to offer. We suggest stopping by Mudbrick Vineyard and Restaurant for a wine tasting and grabbing an Island Gelato before hitting Cactus Bay by kayak for a sunset swim and sunbathe.
Bay Of Islands

Get exploring this Easter weekend and cruise up north to the towns of Paihia, Waitangi and Russell. Treat yourself to a stay at The Duke Of Malborough Hotel while you visit the Treaty Grounds and Pompallier House before relaxing back at our favourite, Charlotte’s Kitchen on Paihia wharf. There’s also activities for the thrill seekers, like swimming with dolphins and snorkelling with tropical fish on Piercy Island.

If you’re a surfer then we’re sure you’re already very familiar with this little beach town just south of Auckland. However, if you’re not then let us introduce you to Raglan: , the perfect seaside town filled with quirky stores, amazing food (you’ve got to try The Raglan Shack), and water as far as the eye can see. There’s plenty to see and do, and who knows, maybe you’ll come back a pro-surfer!
