Let’s be real. There’s a time for #cleaneating and then there’s a time for shoving your face with one of life’s naughtiest creations—deep fried food. Whether you’re nutty for doughies, keen on croquettes or have a love affair with deep-fried ice cream, we have your ultimate cheat day itinerary. 

And since we don’t do things in halves here at The Urban List, we’ve found the 50 best deep fried dishes in Auckland. Good luck—you’re going to need it. 

  1. Get acquainted with Pappa Rich’s crispy chicken skin. Stay BFFs for life. 
  2. Let the Serrano ham and Manchego cheese croquettes from Dida’s bring a smile to your dial. 
  3. Get all emotional over The Plateau burger with crispy chicken in secret spices from Al’s Deli
  4. Feel a ‘lil fancy with the Kumeu courgette flowers and goats cheese from Baduzzi
  5. Order a sneaky side serving of the kumara fries with chipotle mayo from Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen
  6. Although we still love their fried chicken, Miss Clawdy’s popcorn shrimp po boy can get in our belly any day. 
  7. Dive into a bowl of sukor spice sticky chicken at Madam Woo. BYO wet wipes. 
  8. Nanam encase their caramelised banana parfait in a crispy dough and it’s seriously good. 
  9. Munch through an entire bag of onion pakora from Paradise
  10. Hallertau’s cheese-stuffed fried jalapeno poppers are not for the faint hearted. You’ve been warned. 
  11. Get a daily dose of veg with Orleans’ fried green tomatoes. 
  12. Thank the food gods for the collision of fries and kimchi. Coreano make theirs with slow-braised pulled pork, sautéed kimchi cheese, sour cream and k-salsa roja. 
  13. Crunch down on Mexico’s mushroom chimichangas. Life changing. 
  14. All hail the deep fried kushiage meat and veges from Tanuki’s Cave
  15. Sink your teeth into the deep fried goats cheese with runny honey and toasted almonds at Bellota.
  16. Knock back a couple of beer battered oysters (served with remoulade) at Miss Moonshine’s.
  17. Try not to burn your tongue on Xuxu’s banoffee and salted caramel dumplings. 
  18. Get all messy with the flaky beef mussamun roti from Farang
  19. Molten’s spiced calamari, wild rocket and lemon aioli entrée is a crispy, zingy delight. 
  20. Devour the crisp-as-can-be braised pork belly morsels from Mekong Baby. The hit of sweetness from caramelised chilli and soy is on point. 
  21. Smother Monsoon Poon’s chicken, prawn and spring onion wontons with plum, hoisin and chili sauce and let your eyes roll in pleasure. 
  22. Don’t knock The Garden Shed’s spicy craft beer battered pickles ‘til you try them. 
  23. No market trip is complete without a Langos—an Hungarian fried bread brushed with crushed garlic and sea salt. 
  24. Juicy, fried, coconut-coated prawns don’t get more delicious than at Le Vietnamese Kitchen
  25. If you have not treated yourself to Fatima’s potato koftas, you have not lived. 
  26. The classic combo of lox, crème fraiche and dill is practically made to be served with The Fed’s crispy latkes. You’ll never want it any other way again. 
  27. Give us macadamia and cornflake-crusted French toast from The Collins and don’t ask questions. 
  28. The uber-crunchy battered fish and hand-cut chips from St Heliers Bay Café is a must. 
  29. Woodpecker Hill’s banana and pineapple fritters with vanilla bean custard are the way to our hearts. 
  30. Make the crispy lotus chips your number one consumption priority at Industry Zen
  31. Nibble away on crispy rice balls at inner-city eatery, Lucky Buddha.  
  32. Hope that one day you’ll be lucky enough to hunt down The Tin Kitchen and experience the genius that is their soft shell crab burger. 
  33. Fall in love with the crunchy yet fluffy polenta chips from Coco’s Cantina
  34. Hit your daily greens quota with the sweet, salty French beans from Barilla
  35. Get all hold and cold with the deep fried Kohu Road ice cream at Artwok
  36. Embrace the invention of yum yum mayo with Chop Chop’s Korean fried chicken. 
  37. We can never resist the sugar-coated churros and hot chocolate sauce from Tasca
  38. You’ll definitely want to gram Citizen Park’s hashtag fries. 
  39. Pop into Galbraith’s Alehouse for an oozy scotch egg with some serious crunch. 
  40. Seafood fans will be rapt with Cinta Malaysian’s starter of 15 deep fried scallops. 
  41. Don’t forget an order of the chicken wings at Scarlett Slimms & Lucky
  42. Before you launch into a meat-heavy feast at El Humero, steal a few bites of their deep fried beef and potato empanadas. 
  43. Be transported to Greece via Bodrum Kitchen’s loukoumades—doughnut balls soaked in honey with walnuts, pistachios and vanilla bean ice cream. 
  44. Take this deep fried business to a whole ‘nother level with Little Easy’s deep fried goodness platter feat. samosas, spring rolls, prawn twisters, wontons and much, much more. 
  45. Crispy on the outside, oozy on the inside. Grill & Shakes’ mozzarella dippers are a total treat. 
  46. We’d happily demolish plate after plate of Burger Burger’s potato skins with truffle aioli. 
  47. Saan’s deep fried taro cakes and tofu is one of the best starters in town. 
  48. Order yourself a plate of Vivace’s parmesan crumbed mushrooms and don’t share. 
  49. Graze on a plate of battered prawns with thousand island dressing at Everybody’s
  50. Last but certainly not least is the Taiwanese doughnut from Chinoiserie. Drizzled in chocolate sauce and sprinkled with toasted coconut, it’s the perfect end to a deep fried feed.
