Settle in for a good week of watching because there is a stellar line-up of fresh new releases hitting screens this week. Whether you prefer a chick flick or murder mystery, there is plenty to dive into and binge watch during your cosy evenings after work.

Here are the best things to watch this week. 

Game of Thrones Series Finale 

Neon, Soho and Prime

The show that has taken over the world comes to a highly-anticipated and heart-breaking end. Game of Thrones airs its final episode this Monday evening, in an expectantly dramatic finish. The Emmy Award-winning series has a cult following of fanatics who, since 2011, have lived and breathed the epic medieval fantasy world. Brace yourselves and get ready to say a final goodbye. 

Catch 22

George Clooney directs and stars in the highly-anticipated new show, Catch 22. Based on Joseph Heller’s novel, it tells the story of World War II US Air Force bombardier, Yossarian. Stationed in Italy during the war, Yossarian tries everything he can to get out of active duty and be sent home—including claiming insanity. The show contrasts the terrifying moments of horror during the war with the breath-taking cinematic style that Clooney brings to all of his work. 

Deep State

The thrilling second season of Deep State is out now and is a must watch for all action, spy-drama fanatics. Retired M16 Intelligence Officer Max Easton lives a quiet life with his wife and children, with his dangerous past behind him. When his son gets shot during a mission in Iran, Max is sucked back into the world he tried so hard to escape. Unlike typical spy series, Deep State combines epic action scenes with emotional home life storylines.

Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Road Trip

Gordon, Gino and Fred's Road Trip is one for the foodies. The television favourite Chef Gordon Ramsay’s new show with Gino D’Acampo and Fred Sirieix hilariously documents their culinary road trip through Europe. Filmed over three weeks spent travelling through Italy, France and Scotland, each Chef invites the other two into their home region. The first stop is Gino’s homeland Italy, where the three prepare a very special wedding menu. New episodes show every Thursday at 8.30pm on TVNZ 1. 

The Society

When a group of Connecticut high school students head away for a school camping trip, they return to find all of the town’s adults have disappeared. The newfound freedom is fun to begin with but the new society with no rules quickly turns dangerous. While the students struggle to figure out what has happened to their parents, they attempt to establish order in a chaotic situation.

The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair

Based on the novel by Swiss author Joel Dicker, the mini-series The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair stars much-loved Patrick Dempsey in this dramatic mystery. Award-winning novelist Harry Quebert is accused of murdering a young girl who disappeared in the area decades earlier. A student finds a grave in Quebert’s garden which opens the investigation with the writer as the lead suspect. The series follows the student and Quebert as they fight for his innocence, which proves more complicated than it seems.

Dr Leah Dale's mission is to inspire the brightest young students in the country. When one of them, Rose, submits a suspiciously perfect essay, Leah is quick to call her out for cheating. What begins as a seemingly black and white case of academic deception, becomes a game of cat and mouse as Leah tries to expose Rose. Deranged and deeply troubled, Rose is hell-bent on revenge and the two women come face to face when forced to reconcile with the truth.
