7 Tv Series To Smash This Summer

‘Tis the season to sit back, relax and catch up on every single TV series you may have missed out on over the course of 2017, because sunlight is overrated and Netflix is not.

Big Little Lies

Big Little Lies is potentially the most binge-worthy series of the entire year that will not only have you guessing ‘who did it’ but also ‘who did they do it to?’. Yup, it’s mystery-drama-goodness all in one with the added bonus of having not one, but three strong female leads played by Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley. Big Little Lies received 16 Emmy Award nominations, with eight wins so you know it’s kind of outstanding.

Alias Grace

This is the second TV series this year to be adapted from a Margaret Atwood novel and it’s just as gripping and mysterious as The Handmaid’s Tale. The series follows Grace Marks, a servant who was imprisoned at the age of sixteen for the double murder of Thomas Kinner and Nancy Montgomary, the household owner and housekeeper where Marks was employed. Based on the real life events of 1843, this murder mystery will have you questioning Marks’ innocence until the very end.

Stranger Things: Season 2

If you’ve already seen Stranger Things Season One then we will assume you have also already seen Season Two because, well, it’s fricken lit. But, just in case you haven’t gotten around to it yet, this is our public service announcement to get yourself a day in bed with this series. It’s got all of your fave adorable kids from season one, plus a load of new characters too: demodogs (think demogorgon x dog), not to mention another wtf house installation from Winona aka Joyce Buyers. What’s not to love?

American Vandal

American Vandal tells the story of a small-town school which has literally been covered in penises (we’re talking the graffiti kind here) and there’s only one suspect—established dick painter Dylan Maxwell, who is promptly expelled. It’s not long before sophomore student Peter Maldonado launches a full-blown investigation to uncover if Maxwell really is the dick-obsessed culprit or if someone else is to blame. You can either look at it as a four-hour dick joke or a mystery crime story, we’ll leave it up to you.

The Sinner

A seemingly normal woman, wife and mother goes to the beach one day with her family and brutally stabs a stranger to death. So the mystery begins: why did she do it? She doesn’t seem to know herself and would rather rot in prison than uncover the truth. Jessica Biel plays the leading role in The Sinner and she does such an incredible job it’ll make you leave Netflix rolling on autoplay all day long.

Mindhunter

Set in the early days of criminal psychology, Mindhunter follows two FBI agents and a psychologist who interview imprisoned serial killers in order to understand the way they think in hopes of solving current cases. The series is based on a non-fiction book written by former FBI agent John Douglas, the man partly responsible for the development of criminal profiling.

Riverdale Season 2

The Archie comic kids are back with a new murder mystery to solve and it’s just as outrageous and dark (if not even more so) than last season. It’s packed with a ton of drama, twists and epic characters that will keep you coming back for more (Netflix only releases one episode a week—what is the world coming to?) But, let’s be honest, there’s one real reason we are still watching this series and it starts with KJ and ends with Apa. Yeah, he plays a 16-year-old and yeah, he’s dreamy af.
