Weekends are made for relaxing, right? Too often they involve filling the hours with frenetic plans, crazy parties, resulting in hitting work on Monday more exhausted than when you left on Friday.
Don’t worry, we’ve got your back. We know weekends are about relaxing, and so we’ve compiled this handy dandy list to help you relax and chill out so that you can refuel, refresh and feel wholly human again.
Just one word of advice: turn off cellular data. You can update your Insta after the weekend.
#1 Weekend At Castaways Resort
If you saw our Glamping article then you would know that glamping is in fact, the new camping. Castaways Resorts provides the most luxurious stay for glampers, while getting amongst nature. A visit to the Day Spa is a must, with a cliff top setting and panoramic views overlooking the ocean. We say—treat yo’ self!
#2 Spend A Weekend Out West
There’s a reason why they say West is best. With rugged West Coast beaches, countless hikes and waterfalls, and the best spots to watch the sunset, it really is one of Auckland’s gems. While it’s hard to cut it down to just a few spots, we thought we’d plan out the weekend for you, to take the stress away of course. Try your hand at surfing with Piha Surf School and then refuel at Piha café. After your big day of adventuring, cosy up for the night at Piha Lodge.
#3 Day Trip To Matakana
One of our favourite things about Auckland is the ability we have to head away for just one day. There are so many epic day trips to be had and Matakana is one of them. Get away early, and head straight to the Matakana markets. If the weather isn’t too nice, catch a movie at Matakana’s luxury cinema. Or, if the weather is playing fair, give into your sweet tooth with an ice cream at the Oob store, then get some sun on your skin at Omaha beach. If lying around isn’t your cuppa’ tea, have a hit of golf at the Omaha Golf Course. En route back to Auckland, stop in for a brew and enjoy some delicious food at Leigh Sawmill Brewery.
#4 Wine And Dine On Waiheke
There’s nothing like a weekend at Waiheke to sit back and relax, while being wined and dined like no other. Waiheke takes the entire stress away. Heck, you don’t even have to drive there! Just make sure you’re early for the ferry so you don’t end up running for it (it happens to us every time). Visit the most ‘gram-worthy winery on Waiheke—Poderi Crisci—then, lay in the sun at Oneroa Beach. Try a yoga class at The Breathing Space, and then be pampered before heading back to Auckland at Delamore Lodge’s day spa.
#5 Be Zen In Auckland
While it is super-relaxing to escape Auckland for the weekend, sometimes it’s just not possible. If you’re staying in Auckland and still need a little Zen in your life, then we’ve got you covered. Enjoy a paddleboard and yoga class with Yoga Sanctuary’s Glide & Flow classes, held every Saturday until December. Post-workout, fill your tummy with brunch at Café Mimosa, making sure you nab the tables out the back for a quiet meal. Filled and happy, relax those muscles in the geo-thermal water at Parakai Springs.
#6 Go Hippie At Raglan
Nothing says Zen more than this little surfing town. Spend the weekend at Solscape and wake up with a yoga class before hitting the surf with some lessons at the surf school. And, be sure to enjoy a post workout massage and refuel on some good food and coffee at The Shack.
#7 Set Up Camp At Te Arai
While we do love heading out West for some wet’n’wild beaches, we also can’t go past a weekend on white sand with crystal-clear blue water. Head up North for the weekend and park up at Te Arai. Pack a picnic, sleep under the stars at Te Arai campground, and hike to the top of the hill for the next morning’s workout.
