Everything Worth Streaming This Month

By Urban List Writers - 10 Jan 2019

New year, new shows to watch. And who are we to complain? This month brings forward British Comedy taking the form of Sex Education, a thrill-ride with Chris Pine in I Am the Night and major cleaning inspiration with Tidying Up with Marie Kondo.

Here are all the shows to binge this January.

Netflix

Tidying Up With Marie Kondo

If you’re looking for inspiration to kick off your ‘new year, new you’ resolution, this show is going to bring it. De-cluttering queen, Marie Kondo, visits over-stuffed houses throughout the U.S and asks hoarders and sentimentalists alike to face their possessions and ask one question, “Does it bring me joy?” if the answer’s no, let it go. Tidying Up with Marie Kondo is out now.

Sex Education

Ever wondered what Gillian Anderson would be like as a sex therapist? Us too. But what’s it like being a sex therapist’s virgin son? Awkward, that’s what. Technically, Otis has no right to be telling anyone what to do with their sex lives, but when his mate comes up with a good side hustle to get them through the last few years of school, it’s hard to pass up. Therapy for cash. What could possibly go wrong? Expect good old-fashioned off-beat British humour. Sex Education is out January 11.

A Series of Unfortunate Events - Season 3

The third and final instalment of A Series of Unfortunate Events arrives to answer all your questions: what’s with the sugar bowl? What caused the schism? Are the Baudelaire children going to live through this or will Count Olaf finally get his hands on their fortune? Tune in to find out, or, heed Lemony Snicket’s advice and… don’t. A Series of Unfortunate Events season 3 is out now.

The Punisher - Season 2

When we left everyone’s favourite brutal anti-hero murder machine at the end of season one, Frank Castle had damn near killed Billy Russo for his hand in the death of Frank’s family. But, it would seem, Billy was not quite dead enough and the pretty boy is back as the not-so-pretty Jigsaw. There’ll big hits and even bigger guns. Side note: Better watch this one quickly before Netflix severs another tie with Marvel. The Punisher season 2 is out January 18.

You

A psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, You sees the return of Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley to the silver screen. The show follows bookstore manager Joe Goldberg's (Badgley) obsession with Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail).  A harrowing eye-opening look into the mind of a stalker, Joe loses his grip on reality as his harmless crush progresses into something far more sinister. Neon

True Detective - Season 3

Set in the Ozarks, detectives Wayne Hays (Mahershala Ali) and Roland West (Stephen Dorff)  work to solve the disappearance of two missing children. The latest instalment of True Detective takes place over three decades, as the duo dive deeper into the mystery. Hitting Neon on the 14th, the eight-episode season is set to be its best yet.

Deadly Class

Based on the comic series of the same name, Deadly Class sees orphan Marcus Arguello's life transformed from living on the streets to enrolling in a school for assasins. Led by the ruthless Master Lin (Benedict Wong), the series follows Marcus and other students as they train to become deadly murderers. Intrigued? Mark the 17th on your cals, this is going to be good.

I Am The Night

Given up by her mother at birth, Fauna sets to discover the truth about her past. Meeting a ruined journalist (Chris Pine) along the way, things take a sinister turn when her investigation leads her to the gynaecologist, Dr. George Hodel. Famous for his involvement in the Black Dahlia Murder, I Am The Night promises no episode will be like the last. Catch I Am The Night from the 29th.

Vida

When two sisters, who couldn't be more different, are forced to return home due to the death in their family, things take a turn for the mysterious when questions begin to surface about their mother's true identity. Vida reveals shocking truths about their past, the series will see the pair band together to discover the truth. Streaming from the 30th.

Lightbox

Suits Season 8

The long wait is over—in just two short weeks Suits will be back. The mid-season finale saw Samantha (Katherine Heigl) and Alex (Dulé Hill) go head to head for name partner. In order to save the firm from tearing itself apart, Donna intervenes and sets Louis up to become managing partner, promoting both Samantha and Alex in the process. Things are set to get lit when the series returns on the 24th.

Press

Press provides an insight into the fast-paced nature of media. Following two competing newspapers, the series depicts the lengths journalist will go to in order to break a story. Under the pump of a 24-hour news cycle, the series delves into the art of sesationalising the ordinary. Click here to watch now.
