9 Totally Awesome (And Free!) Things To Do In Auckland This February

One month down, eleven to go! It’s officially February (and the last 27 days of summer—boo!) and we’re guessing that you dropped a fair bit of moolah over the holiday break, leaving minimal dollars to spend on activities. Fret not! We’ve tracked down some awesome free events in Auckland this month that won’t cost you a single dime.

From parades, festivals galore and music in the sunshine, here are nine free things to do in Auckland this February.

Summer In The Square | All Month

Summer isn’t over yet, people! Auckland Live’s Summer in the Square kicked off in December and has provided countless days of free family-friendly fun. If you haven’t headed to Aotea Square to check out all the good vibes, now is your chance. February’s line-up includes a K-Pop night, gardening workshops and a stellar music sched from local talent and beyond.

Cornwall Park Summer Music Series | All Month

Sunshine, tunes and a picnic in the park tickle your fancy? Head along to Cornwall Park every Sunday in Feb for a rotating and eclectic line-up of entertainment. There will be American-Country Blues, jazz and a big band playing at the iconic Rotunda.

Silo Park Cinemas | All Month

Who doesn’t love an outdoor movie?! Grab your fellow movie buffs and make your way to Silo Park for an evening or two of movies under the stars. Chuckle away at Taika Waititi’s masterpiece Hunt for the Wilderpeople on 3rd February, Silo World Cinema: Timuktu on the 10th, the classic fairy tale The Princess Bride on the 14th and Field of Dream on the 17th. There will be plenty of food trucks in case you get peckish. Make sure you arrive early so you nab a good spot.

Waitangi Day Celebrations At Orakei Domain | 6th February

Waitangi Day is on its way and you can celebrate right here in Auckland at Orakei Domain. This free family-friendly event will be buzzing with food stalls, a dedicated arts and crafts lane, heaps of games for the little ones and a fancy mobile treaty exhibition by Auckland Museum. To top it off, a solid line-up of local musicians will take the stage so you can boogy the day away.

Auckland Lantern Festival | 9th—12th February

There are a handful of brilliant Chinese New Year events happening all over Auckland this month, but the Auckland Lantern Festival is set to be one of the most spectacular. Set at the Domain for four days, punters can expect hundered of handmade lanterns, performances and (if you've a spare dollar or two),  the Night Noodle Markets. With delish eats from White & Wong’s, Monsoon Pon and Hoy Pinoy (that tasty Filipino BBQ vendor from Aussie!), there’s no chance of leaving hungry.

West Coast Art Festival | 19th February

Head out West for a full day of sand sculptures, live music and tasty food. Set at the stunning Piha Beach, the West Coast Art Festival is an eco-friendly event that you won’t want to miss. There will be art activities, environmental displays and of course, a sand sculpture competition. May the best sculpture win! 

Auckland Pride Festival & Parade | 10th—26th February

What’s not to love about Auckland Pride Festival?! With an eclectically fabulous free line-up of events, including the Pride Dawn Ceremony, Rainbow Youth Open Day, Proud 2017, Ending HIV Big Day Out, Ride with Pride and Auckland’s biggest, boldest carnival—Auckland Pride Parade. Whatever event you rock up to, expect a whole lotta diversity and happiness.  

Fairtrade Festival | 25th February

For the first time everrr, New Zealand will be having its very own Fairtrade Festival and, trust us, it’s more exciting than you think! On Saturday 25 February, Albert Park will be chocka with fairtrade vendors selling all sorts of products to help you be an oh-so conscious consumer.

Elvis In The Gardens | 26th February

If you find yourself humming ‘you ain’t nothing but a hound dog’, then we’ve got an event for you this Feb. Back for its eighth year, Elvis in the Gardens is set to rock Auckland’s Botanic Gardens with a whopping SIX HOURS of live music from the Elvis Tribute Band. Prepare to groove and boogie along to some of the best anthems our world has ever known.
