Look, we all like to dine like royalty now and then—nobody’s gonna judge you for that. However, sometimes our desires are beyond our pauper means.

When times are tight, don’t let that dwindling bank balance get in between you and your love of food. Seek out that deal-of-the-day and fulfill those culinary cravings without having to sell your dignity or a vital organ.

Here's a delicious deal for every day of the week. The week ahead has never looked so good.

Monday

Mt Eden's Molten restaurant has a rustic little wine bar next door that serves superb wood fired pizzas. It's a neighbourhood favourite so be prepared to nurse a glass of wine from their impeccable selection while you wait. But honestly, it couldn't be more worth it. Every single one of their pizzas will set you back a mere $7, but are light years away from your usual delivery chain. If you can't hack the wait, or this article inspires a tsunami of punters, stroll down the road to De Post Belgian Beer Cafe where all mussel pots are half price, leaving plenty of cash to test out some exotic European ales.

Tuesday

Orphans Kitchen are renowned for their inventive and playful musings in the kitchen. Try it out firsthand with their Test Kitchen held on the first Tuesday of every month. The four-course menu is only $55pp with no bookings as per, unless you can rustle up a serious crew to nab their gorgeous private room upstairs. These special nights allow head chef Tom Hishon and his team play around with the seasons’ best produce using new techniques and treatments. In our experience, with Tom at the helm it almost always works.

Wednesday

Phil's Kitchen has a perfect deal to mark the downward slope to the weekend in the most sophisticated way possible. Phil's modern menu is a serious update on classic fare, and on Wednesdays three fabulous courses can be all yours for just $50. The menu changes each week to keep things interesting and make the most of the season's best. For a wee bit more than the usual price of a main you'll get a scrumptious starter AND a happy ending—we're looking forward to Wednesday already!

Thursday

Come Thursday we're all ready for a tipple or three. Well, it's no happy coincidence that Everybody's in Imperial Lane can cater to everybody's late week needs. Choose three plates from their grazing menu for the price of two. Or six for the price of four, or nine for the price of six; you get the picture. Order a feast to rule them all of Japanese fried chicken with sriracha mayo, buttermilk and potato waffles, and braised lamb shoulder nuggets. Best enjoyed with a glass of anything alcoholic—there's only 24 hours ‘til freedom after all.

Friday

For an absolute stellar way to end the working week, kick off early and hit a long lunch at Merediths in Mt Eden. The four-course degustation menu designed by the fantastic Michael Meredith comes matched with a glass of the indulgent Tattinger. And at $65 it's an absolute steal! Champagne at Friday lunch is surely deserved by your fabulous self, but should your work hold you prisoner right until the early eve, run outta that office quick smart to enjoy the last sunshine hours at TSG's rooftop terrace. Grab two slices of pizza and two beers for $25 to get the weekend started with a (delicious and quenching) bang!

Saturday

Regardless of what pocket of the city you’re headed out in here’s a place for you to get your night off to a (cheap) bang! In Ponsonby, try your very best to nab one of the tables in the sunshine and gorge on $4 pizzas at Freeman & Grey—yes you read that correctly. For the price of just two gold pieces of shrapnel a whole pizza is all yours between 5pm and 7pm, lining the stomach perfectly for a night out. If you’re in the CBD, try out Urchin & Amber, a quirky gastro pub with a seafood focus, who often put on $10 crab nachos on a Saturday.

Sunday

While most restaurants close their doors and Auckland's hospo crew take their turn to drink up at Grand Central, us regular punters can enjoy a serious feast at Mexico. We welcome the Day of the Familia with open arms. It changes seasonally but at the time of writing consisted of an absolute shitload of food for four—tacos (both crispy and soft), a whole pomegranate-marinated shredded chicken, polenta chips and various salsas and fitting condiments. All for only $45! To let all thoughts of Monday morning drift away add a few sangria jugs to your order—an absolute steal at only $15 each.
