What’s better than an old-school Land Rover? An old-school Land Rover serving grilled cheese! Introducing Auckland’s coolest (and cheesiest) new pop-up, Guerrilla Grill.
This rolling cheese machine isn’t hard to find—just keep a look-out for the babein’ blue beast at a market near you. And, if you can’t see it, follow your nose instead. You’ll be able to smell the mouth-watering aromas of chargrilled lamb, braised pork belly and, of course, a whooole lot of cheese. Get in ma belly!
Guerrilla Grill is the brainchild of Stephen Kennedy and his partner Yang Yang—both come from chef backgrounds and they met while at culinary school. Their kitted-out 1973 Land Rover is about two weeks from completion and they can’t wait to show it off (and, quite frankly, neither can we).
Co-owner Stephen says when it comes to their sammies, they’re not wanting to do anything “too out-there”. Instead, they aim to make the much-loved comfort food “that little bit more special”.
And special it is. Guerrilla Grill has sourced a unique three-cheese blend from Mercer Cheese that is perfectly paired with Crafty Baker sourdough. Their creations are then cooked the old-school way—on a hot plate and pressed with a cast-iron press.
Adventurous souls will wanna get amongst their grilled cheeseburger (yes, it’s a thing) packed with caramelised beef mince, pickles, onion, house-made tomato relish, mustard and their signature cheese blend.
If you love your ‘shrooms, they’ve got a vegetarian-friendly mushroom number with garlic and shallot. Finished with a drizzled of truffle oil, it’s a personal fave of Stephen’s.
Or, if you like to keep things classic, Guerrilla Grill have got your back (and your stomach) with their plain cheese sammie. It’s a crunchy, melted toastie at its finest.
While you count down for their iconic Land Rover to take over Auckland’s markets and events, you can catch the friendly duo serving cheesey goodness from a pop-up gazebo. Thanks for making Auckland even more rad, Guerrilla Grill!
