“I hate Italian food,” said no one ever. The Italians have made the world a better (and tastier) place with everything from pasta and gnocchi to gelato and Prosecco. Mamma mia—get in our belly!
To celebrate all things ending in –ella and –ini, Auckland is going full Italiano with a month-long food festival. That’s right, bellas and bellos. Italian everything for an entire MONTH.
Kicking off on September 14, Feast of Italy is brought to you by the friendly folk at Goode Brothers. They’ll be dishing up three mouth-watering Italian-esque courses for just $35—such a goode (pun intended) deal.
The three Auckland venues will showcase Italian cuisine from a different region—giving you a total excuse to go on a restaurant crawl. Botany showcases Rome’s delicious fare, while NorthWest and New Lynn feature the flavours of Genoa and Napoli. Is this Auckland or is this Italy? It’s anyone’s guess!
Let’s be honest, we’d happily eat our way through every. single. dish. but a few have our tummies rumbling. Dig into cavolo gnocchi with mushroom, kale and citrus whip in Botany. Start with charred baby octopus followed by lamb rump with beef cheek tortellini in New Lynn. In NorthWest aka Napoli, you’ll find macaroni frittata bake with Napolitano sauce and Italian-famous Zeppole doughnuts.
But the Italian eats don’t stop there—no way,
José Mario. Taste of Italy’s events calendar is jam-packed with something for everyone. Don’t miss out on tickets to Pasqua’s divine five-course winemakers’ dinner—there’s an event at each venue. You’ll also find Prosecco tastings, kids’ pizza classes and even a toga party.
Personally, we’re super excited for the New Zealand verse Italian cheese tasting (with wine matches—bonus!). You’ll be blindfolded as you try to pick the origins of the cheeses. Which country will come out on top? Are your taste buds loyal to New Zealand? Nab a ticket to find out!
Just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, they do. Devour one of Feast of Italy’s three-course meals and you could be jetting off to Italy. That’s right, Goode Brothers’ is giving away a 10-day trip for two to Florence and Venice. Excuse us while we hide in your suitcase.
So, what are you waiting for? Embrace your best Italian accent, get your fork at the ready and eat your way through this delizioso food festival!
