Ah winter, our love for you is a battlefield. While skiing, snuggly coats and having an excuse to up our pizza intake makes you a wonderful time of year, the freezing titties, chilly willies and heinous power bills are not so fun.
This winter, however, is going to change all that. For the first time EVER, a pop-up sauna will be set up on Auckland’s waterfront to help you defrost and get toasty during the month of August.
The brainchild of the Waterfront Sauna Project Limited, the NZ Pop-Up Sauna is a converted shipping container with two-tiered benches, an 18kw heater, a large window to take in the view and a ton of cedar (aesthetics are key, dontcha know?). It’s a dry sauna (minimal humidity FTW) with the temp sitting between 80 and 95 degrees so you’ll be hollering “it’s getting hot in here” in no time.
How do you experience such a glorious invention? The pop-up sauna will be parked up in Wynyard Quarter from August 5th to August 26th. It will be decked out with changing rooms, an outdoor shower (or take a dip in the harbour if you’re into the hot/cold thing) and drinking water to keep hydration levels in check. All you’ve got to do is locate those togs and BYO towel!
