Auckland Has A Toast Cafe!

Pour yourself a buttery chards and get ready to raise a toast…to toast. That’s right, the humble toast (the bread kind) is about to take the city by storm because Auckland now has its very own toast café. Hallelujah to that.

Yeshe Dawa of The Midnight Baker has been serving up wheat, gluten, yeast, nut and refined sugar-free bread to the people of Auckland for a while now, stocking up some of our favourite cafes and giving us our weekend Freedom Loaf fix at La Cigale French Markets. It was only a matter of time until Yeshe’s toast empire skyrocketed and we couldn’t be more chuffed that The Midnight Baker now has a permanent home.

Situated along Dominion Road (the Mt Eden end), The Midnight Baker’s toast café is open six days a week (Tuesday—Sunday) for coffee, drinks and of course, toast. The tempting menu is broken down into sweet, savoury and little and big kids.

Sweet tooths can chow down on Cinnamon Chai loaf topped with almond and spiced Better butter with raspberry chia jam or maple syrup drizzled with tahini, crushed pistachio and coconut sugar. For a naughtier slice, try the raw vanilla cheesecake spread, cacao drizzle and freeze dried raspberries or, get your daily fruit intake via roasted spiced pear, date caramel, Whoatella coconut-almond-crunch and vanilla Nice cream. Yep, they’re pretty much toast desserts. 

If your taste buds are on team savoury, then you’ll be stoked to hear that The Midnight Baker’s loaded toasts are delish. For something fresh, opt for the basil pesto, roasted vine toms, crumbled cashew cheese and hazelnut dukkah. There’s a smashed edamame and avocado option to satisfy Auckland’s avo obsession and pulled BBQ ‘not pork’ with slaw and Wise Boys aioli for those after a heartier feed.

Wash it all down with a Forage & Bloom tea. Or, choose from Karma Cola, Aotea Tonics and Organic Mechanic Kombucha—The Midnight Baker really has it all.
