‘Tis nearly the season to be jolly and this year, Auckland is celebrating in a truly epic fashion. For the first time EVER, a giant Christmas tree is coming to Aotea Square...but there’s a catch. The tree is going to be made entirely of LEGO®.
Standing more than 10 metres tall (that's taller than a two-story house!), this LEGO® spectacle weighs a whopping 3.5 tonnes and took more than 1200 hours to build. The star on top of the tree has 13,195 LEGO® bricks and 3456 LED lights alone.
In true Kiwi style, the will be decorated with the likes of a surfboarding Santa, a pukeko and our native bird, and will put on a stellar light and sound show over the festive season.
If, like us, you’re bursting at the seams in excitement, clear your Friday evening and head down for the launch party. Kicking off at 6.30pm on November 25th, it’s set to be an evening of live beats, delicious eats and entertainment (carols!), with the Christmas tree lights been switched on at 8.15pm.
One thing’s for sure—the LEGO® Christmas Tree is going to give Franklin Road a run for its money.
