Big news, guys. Your cheesy dreams are about to come true because Auckland’s getting a grilled cheese pop-up! Uh hah, you heard right—a grilled cheese pop-up.
For the month of July, The Melt will be taking over Ponsonby’s Craft Kitchen on Friday and Saturday evenings to dish up cheesy sandwichy goodness.
The menu stars not one, not two but SIX (!) grilled cheese sandwiches. If you’re a keep-it-simple kinda guy/gal, The Plain Jane featuring mature gouda on sourdough is for you.
If you like cheese, cheese and more cheese, may we suggest you order The Big Cheese with mature gouda, masadam and fresh mozzarella. The East Side is a less traditional toastie, topped with soy-braised pulled pork, kimchi, coriander and masadam.
As for our favourite? We’ll be lining up to get amongst The Mac Daddy. This sourdough toastie is oozing with cola-braised beef, mac’n’cheese (holy moly!), mature gouda, jalapeno, bacon and truffle. It’s like all the world’s greatest ingredients in one big ass toastie!
If you’re all cheesed out, you might wanna opt for a side of a gherkin. It will help to cut through the rich flavours and make you feel better about life. Alternatively, there’s two side salads on offer as well as antipasto.
Make sure you save room for dessert because we’ve heard good things about both the chocolate cremeux and coconut panna cotta—hellooo spiced charred pineapple!
The Melt is the brainchild of Little Eats catering business who usually specialise in canape-style dining and intimate dinner menu. They can also be found at the Grey Lynn Farmers’ Market on most Sundays.
